Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina meet Saturday in a US Open final that brings together the tournament’s top two seeds and two of the most dangerous hard-court players in women’s tennis. Sabalenka enters her fourth consecutive US Open final after beating Jessica Pegula 7-5, 6-2 in the semifinals, while Rybakina reached her first New York final by recovering from a set down to defeat Coco Gauff 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Sabalenka is chasing a third straight US Open title, while Rybakina is the 2026 Australian Open champion and is trying to win another major.
Why Our Model Sees Value:
“Sabalenka’s stronger US Open track record, better 2026 results against Rybakina, cleaner semifinal performance, and ability to attack Rybakina’s second serve give her a slightly larger advantage than the current 56¢ price.”
Sabalenka's Price Not Big Enough
The current market does a good job of recognizing how close this final should be, but 56¢ still looks a little short on Sabalenka. The matchup price implies she wins slightly more than half the time, while my projection puts her at 60.2%. That difference creates a 4.2% edge and supports a Sabalenka prediction at the current price.
Sabalenka With a Recovery Edge
Our projection is based on more than Sabalenka’s status as the two-time defending champion. She has beaten Rybakina twice in their three meetings this season and comes into the final after a much easier semifinal. Rybakina needed three sets in both the quarterfinals and semifinals, while Sabalenka followed her difficult quarterfinal with a straight-set win over Pegula. In a matchup where both players depend heavily on first-strike tennis, even a small recovery and preparation edge can matter.

Sabalenka holds the overall advantage in the career series, and their recent meetings have remained highly competitive. The 2026 season has produced three meetings between them, with Sabalenka winning two.
Rybakina won the Australian Open final 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, showing that she is fully capable of beating Sabalenka on one of the sport’s biggest stages. Sabalenka responded at Indian Wells, saving match point before winning 3-6, 6-3, 7-6. She then beat Rybakina again in Miami, 6-4, 6-3.
Sabalenka appears to have found better ways to handle Rybakina’s first serve and extend enough return points to turn the match into a more balanced baseline contest.
Sabalenka has once again looked comfortable in New York. She reached the later rounds with limited trouble before running into a difficult quarterfinal against Linda Noskova. Sabalenka had to recover from a deficit in the deciding set before eventually surviving in a third-set tiebreak.
Her semifinal against Pegula was far more controlled. Sabalenka won 7-5, 6-2 and became increasingly dominant after taking the opening set. Her serve held up well, her forehand put consistent pressure on her opponent, and she avoided the extended error runs that can occasionally pull opponents back into matches.
That performance is one of the strongest reasons to support Sabalenka in the final. She showed she could reset quickly after a difficult quarterfinal and play a much cleaner match under pressure.
Rybakina has also been excellent during this US Open run. She has answered any concerns about her physical condition with strong serving, efficient baseline play, and several impressive wins.
Earlier in the tournament, she controlled matches with her first serve and short-point aggression. She then faced tougher tests in the quarterfinals and semifinals, recovering from a set down in both matches.
Against Gauff, Rybakina lost the opening set 6-3 before adjusting her return position and finding more success in the middle of the court. She eventually completed a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 comeback. The result was impressive, but it also meant another long match immediately before the final.
Serve quality should be one of the biggest factors in the match. Rybakina owns one of the most dangerous first serves in women’s tennis. When her first-serve percentage is high, she can shorten games and prevent Sabalenka from settling into return points. Her combination of pace and placement can force weak replies and create easy first-ball attacks.
The bigger question is what happens behind her second serve. Sabalenka is one of the best aggressive returners on tour, and she will look to step inside the baseline whenever she gets a second serve. If Sabalenka can consistently put Rybakina under pressure in those situations, the match can shift quickly.
The same applies on the other side. Rybakina’s flat return is dangerous enough to punish Sabalenka if the defending champion falls into stretches of double faults or weaker second serves.
Both players prefer to control rallies early rather than build points slowly. Sabalenka generally has the heavier forehand, while Rybakina can create pressure with flatter groundstrokes that stay low through the court.
Rybakina will want to keep Sabalenka moving laterally and prevent her from setting her feet around the baseline. Sabalenka becomes much more dangerous when she has time to load on the forehand and dictate into the open court.
Sabalenka, meanwhile, will want to stretch rallies just enough to expose Rybakina’s movement and force her to hit additional balls after the initial attack. She does not need to overpower Rybakina on every exchange. A more controlled approach may actually improve her chances.
Second-serve performance may be the clearest indicator of success in this match. Both players are difficult to break when their first serves are working, which means return points against second serves will carry extra weight. The player who creates more aggressive first-ball opportunities after the return should have the advantage.
Sabalenka also needs to manage her aggression. Her most dangerous stretches usually come when she attacks without forcing every shot. If she becomes impatient, Rybakina has enough pace to turn loose errors into quick games.
Rybakina needs to serve accurately, keep points short, and avoid letting Sabalenka repeatedly attack from comfortable positions. Her path to victory becomes much stronger if she can force Sabalenka to defend rather than dictate.
At a current Polymarket price of 56¢, Sabalenka offers enough value to support a position backing her. My projection puts her at 60.2%, creating a 4.2% edge over the implied probability.
