Odds from Sportzino
The favorite to win the men’s 1500m is Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway, who won this race at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. There is only one other competitor inside of +1500 going into this final and that is Scotland’s Josh Kerr. Kerr finished third in this event in the Tokyo Games and has said that he expects a vicious battle between himself and Ingebrigtsen in what should be a highly competitive fight between them for gold.
Olympic Men’s 1500m Major Storylines
The anticipated showdown between Ingebrigtsen and Kerr is the number-one storyline ahead of the men’s 1500m final. While Ingebrigtsen got the better of Kerr at the Olympics in 2021, Kerr returned the favor in the World Championships in 2023, when the Scotsman won the gold in this distance. While the Norwegian is a deserved favorite based on his history, this race could go to either of these two men, which will set up a really intriguing final between them.
The race for bronze is also going to be a compelling storyline going into this event. That is thanks in part to the presence of two Americans in the medal hunt. Cole Hocker took the silver medal in this distance at the World Indoor Championships earlier this year and he could help the USA come away with another notch for their medal tally if he runs his best in the 1500. And Yared Nuguse certainly has a chance to land on the podium as well, giving the Americans two shots to medal.
Olympic Men’s 1500m Medal Contenders
Along with Ingebrigtsen, Kerr, Yuguse, and Hocker, we could see a couple of other contenders come away with a medal in this event. Timothy Cheruiyot of Kenya won silver in the 1500m in Tokyo and has four Diamond League titles in the 1500 as well. And don’t count out Narve Gilje Nordas of Norway, who won bronze in the 1500 at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest.
Men’s 1500m Betting Prediction: Josh Kerr (+124)
This race is going to come down to Ingebrigtsen and Kerr as far as we can tell. But we will take Kerr at plus money to come in first place in the men’s 1500m final, as his recent performances suggest that he has a great chance to come out on top. He is also a better value than his fellow top contender from Norway, in what we see as a coin flip between those two men.
