Footy fans can rejoice a little earlier this August as the club season returns on August 5 with the start of a new English Premier League campaign. That also means less time than normal to lock in Premier League futures wagers on the outrights market for bettors with the earlier season start to accommodate the fall World Cup in Qatar.
Running out of time to place your Premier League futures for the 2022/23 soccer season? Don’t worry, I have you covered all week with some tasty predictions to make sure anyone who wants to gamble responsibly won’t miss out on the action.
Today we are looking at an interesting market, the League Winner (without Manchester City) market provides some value for those who feel a new club can surpass City’s chief rivals in Liverpool and break up the current duopoly in the Premier League.
Those who are confident in Liverpool finishing in the Top 2 or winning the league can back the chalk in this market at around -225 odds. A safe investment for a small return for those who wish to put their money in the hands of manager Jurgen Klopp’s steady leadership at Liverpool, who are the consensus second favorites to lift the league title.
However, for those looking for a juicier return than LFC’s short price to win the league or finish second behind City, there is another club to consider that is looking to make the leap into a trophy contender this season.
Tottenham the Best Second Place Longshot
Listed as second favorites in the market at +550 odds over at BetMGM, Tottenham Hotspur appear set as the club most likely to leapfrog City or Liverpool this season. Set up with a proven winner in the managerial role in Antonio Conte, Spurs supporters have to feel good about their chances at building on an encouraging finish to last season where they surpassed their North London Derby rivals Arsenal for a fourth place finish and Champions League qualification.
Now, Spurs will take their aim at the next steps in achieving their goal to finally win a trophy to climb the English football hierarchy. A realistic goal for a club that ended last season flying high and taking on all comers.
Improved Depth in North London
To bolster their chances of building on last season, Spurs owner Daniel Levy made some significant investments to improve the squad depth at Tottenham. Brazilian forward Richarlison comes in from Everton to take some of the workload off of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min while accomplished Bundesliga and Serie A winner Ivan Perisic comes in from Inter Milan to reunite with Conte and provide some proven leadership.
Spurs also shored up their midfield with the addition of Yves Bissouma as well as the CB position with the loan signing of Barca’s Clement Lenglet. These additions greatly help Spurs hopes of a climb further up the table. Especially considering that squad depth and injuries to the likes of Kane and Son put a wrench in past seasons where they potentially could have achieved more.
Big Game Spurs
Beyond an improved roster, another reason to feel good about Spurs chances of a table climb this season in Premier League futures markets is their pedigree against the two clubs they are chasing for the league title. Last season, Spurs went unbeaten against City and Liverpool and were the only club that appeared to match the highest level of the EPL’s two best clubs.
In fact, Spurs beat vaunted City on two separate occasions last year. A good omen for a club that will need to get as many points off of the big clubs as possible if they want to put forth a title push.
Consistency against the ‘lesser’ clubs in the Premier League is needed and should come with the aforementioned additional squad depth in place. However, to be the man you gotta beat the man, and Spurs have the best recent track record of being able to take points directly out of the hands of Man City and Liverpool.

Final Word
Spurs supporters have been waiting for it to be ‘their year’ for some time now and it feels like it has been a half decade of expecting the North London club to take the next step after a previously encouraging season. But if there is any year where Spurs will put fear in the hearts of the expected title contenders in the Premier League, it will be this one.
Spurs may not win the league title over the City powerhouse that just added Erling Haaland, but I am loving their chances of surpassing Liverpool along the way to a season of hope of putting the pressure on Manchester until the final day of the season. Back Spurs +550 to be at minimum the second best club in the Prem behind the City dynasty.
