The Champions League Round of 16 is back on Tuesday February 18, 2020 with two blockbuster match-ups across Europe. The one that should produce the most goals takes place in Dortmund as the Bundesliga’s Borussia Dortmund hosts Ligue One’s Paris Saint-Germain. Both Dortmund and PSG know how to put the ball in the back of the net, so this two legged affair could be an all-time classic.
Borussia Dortmund enter mid-February in third place in the Bundesliga, but are just four points back of first place Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga is very tight this season as first place through fifth place are separated by just six points, so the league is still very up for grabs. Dortmund are just two points ahead of fifth place Bayer Leverkusen, so Dortmund still have to fight for their Champions League spot in Germany. Borussia Dortmund are not in any other competitions besides the league and the Champions League.
PSG are, as usual, in complete control of Ligue One as they hold a double digit points lead with just 13 league games remaining. Marseille are the closest contenders to PSG, but they trail by 13 points, so no one is catching the Parisian’s this year. PSG still have 13 league games, the Champions League, the Coupe de France (currently in the semifinals) and the Coupe de la Ligue final left to play for this season.
Below is my pick for the Champions League action between Borussia Dortmund and PSG. All odds are from PointsBet Sportsbook.
Borussia Dortmund (+200) vs PSG (+120) Draw (+270)
Borussia Dortmund got back to their winning ways with an emphatic 4-0 win over red hot Eintracht Frankfurt. The hosts led 1-0 at the half, but put the game away early in the second half with two goals in the opening nine minutes. Frankfurt had come in to this game unbeaten in five straight games, and in 2020, but were no match for the high scoring Dortmund squad. Borussia Dortmund have not lost a competitive home game since April 2019 and have won their last three home fixtures by a combined score of 14-1.
PSG played a thriller over the weekend as they came back from a 3-0 deficit to take a 4-3 lead late in their road clash with Amiens. The hosts would not go down easy, however, as they scored the equalizer in the 91st minute to have this one end 4-4. The draw ended PSG’s nine game winning streak, but the side from Paris is still unbeaten since early November. PSG are unbeaten in 14 straight road fixtures and have not lost on the road since that early November clash at Dijon.
Series History: These two clubs have met just two times before, back in the 2010 Europa League group stages, with both games ending in a draw. The games ended 1-1 in Dortmund and 0-0 in Paris.
Game Prediction: With Neymar I think PSG can win this game, but without him I am not sure, so I am just going to sit back and enjoy all of the goals. I am backing over 3.5 goals (+116) in this one.
