Bayern Munich begin their 2026/27 Champions League campaign at home to Bodø/Glimt on Thursday, with Vincent Kompany’s side overwhelming favorites to take three points at the Allianz Arena. Bayern reached the semifinals of this competition last season and have ambitions of going all the way this time. Bodø/Glimt arrive in excellent form and with considerably more attacking quality than the market price suggests, but Munich remains one of the toughest away assignments in European soccer.

That is considerably stronger than traditional sportsbook consensus, where Bayern's implied probability is closer to the low-to-mid 80s after accounting for vig.
The handicap creates the more interesting decision
Bayern -2.5 is trading at approximately 59¢, meaning the market gives the hosts roughly a 59% chance of winning by at least three goals. The total of Over 4.5 is around 52¢, illustrating how strongly traders expect this matchup to produce goals.

Few Champions League trends are stronger than Bayern's record at home during the opening stage of the competition.
Bayern have not lost a Champions League group-stage or league-phase match at home since Manchester City beat them 3-2 in December 2013. Since then, they have gone 38 home matches unbeaten in this phase, winning 36 of them.
History against Norwegian opposition points in the same direction. Bayern have never lost in eight matches against clubs from Norway, going 6-2-0 overall, while winning all four home fixtures and scoring 17 goals to just three conceded. This will be the first competitive meeting between Bayern and Bodø/Glimt.
Bodø/Glimt should not be treated like an ordinary Champions League minnow. Their domestic attacking numbers are exceptional. They have generated 82.98 total xG across 25 matches, with their games averaging approximately 3.32 xG, by far the highest figure in Norway's Eliteserien data set. Their last five are also running at 2.75 xG per match. Glimt arrive having won seven consecutive matches across all competitions, including a 4-2 victory over Rosenborg and a 5-0 cup win over Fauske/Sprint.
Kjetil Knutsen is unlikely to abandon the principles that have made his side successful simply because the quality of opposition has improved. Glimt press, commit numbers forward and attempt to create overloads rather than sitting permanently inside their own penalty area. That approach gives them a route to scoring in Munich, but it also creates exactly the type of spaces Bayern can punish.
The issue for Bodø/Glimt is not simply preventing Bayern from progressing the ball, they also have to defend Harry Kane.
Traditional sportsbooks have Kane around 1/3 to score anytime, translating to an implied probability above 70% before accounting for bookmaker margin. Luis Díaz is around 20/23.
Kane's movement should be particularly difficult for a Glimt defense that wants to remain aggressive. If their center-backs step forward with Bayern's attacking midfielders, Kane can attack the resulting space. If they stay deep, Bayern can establish possession around the penalty area and allow Olise to operate between the lines. Neither option is particularly attractive from a Bodø perspective.
There is one important reason not to simply assume a Bayern rout. Glimt have already demonstrated that traveling to Germany does not automatically neutralize their attacking game. They drew 2-2 away at Borussia Dortmund last season, one of two draws from their previous three meetings with German opposition.
That makes Bodø/Glimt to score more credible than the 89¢ Bayern moneyline might initially imply. Polymarket currently prices Glimt Over 0.5 team goals at approximately 61¢. A Glimt goal does not necessarily hurt the handicap thesis either. Scores such as 4-1 or 5-1 remain realistic if Bayern consistently break through the visitors' press.
The biggest question is whether Bodø/Glimt can play their normal aggressive game without turning the contest into precisely the type of open match Bayern want.
Glimt's attacking numbers are good enough to suggest they can create chances, and their recent European performances make them more dangerous than the typical heavy underdog. But Bayern's quality in transition, their extraordinary Champions League home record and the return of rested attacking starters create a huge structural disadvantage for the Norwegian champions.
The Bayern moneyline is difficult to justify at 89¢ because our estimated win probability is actually slightly below the market. The handicap is different. At approximately 59¢, Bayern -2.5 only needs the German champions to convert their territorial and attacking superiority into a three-goal margin. Against a Glimt side unlikely to defend its penalty area for 90 minutes, our 64% projection creates enough separation from the market to make that the stronger prediction.
