Last time out, Argentina played a classic quarterfinal that saw them beat the Netherlands in penalties. The Argentines looked like they were going to win in 90 minutes, but a lot went down late in this game to send it to extra time.
Argentina got the scoring started in the 35th minute when Lionel Messi delivered one of the best passes you will ever see and Nahuel Molina finished it. Messi made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute with a penalty that embarrassed the Dutch keeper.
The game turned when Netherlands brought in Wout Weghorst in the 78th minute. Weghorst made the game 2-1 with a bullet header in the 83rd minute and then a beautiful Netherlands team goal tied the game in the 101st minute. Teaun Koopmeiners lined up for a free kick just outside the box but surprised everyone by laying it off to Weghorst who turned and fired it into the bottom corner.
After neither team could score in extra time, Argentina secured the win by winning penalties 4-3.
Croatia
Croatia continued their run by upsetting might Brazil in penalties. Not much happened in this game for 105 minutes, but it was all drama after that.
Neymar had a fantastic individual play to get Brazil the lead in the 105+1 minute and it appeared Brazil would be dancing their way to the semifinals. However, Croatia caught Brazil on the counterattack and tied the game up with a Bruno Petkovic deflected goal in the 117th minute.
Croatia ultimately advanced to the semifinals by winning penalties 4-2.
