The ATS quantitative model is backing AEK Athens on the moneyline in our full AEK vs LASK prediction, but I prefer a different way into Tuesday's Champions League matchup.
Rather than betting on who wins, I'm looking at Over 2.5 goals.
There is plenty of evidence pointing toward AEK being the stronger side, particularly at home. But for this bet, I am more interested in how frequently both teams have been producing games that reach three goals — and whether LASK can make this less comfortable for AEK than their recent domestic opponents have managed.
AEK's recent home scoring is the starting point.
They have beaten Iraklis 4-0, Levski Sofia 4-0 and Aris Thessaloniki 5-0 in their last three competitive home games. That is 13 goals scored without conceding, and it means Over 2.5 does not necessarily require much help from LASK.
The 4-0 win over Levski is particularly relevant because it came in Champions League qualifying rather than against weaker domestic cup opposition.
AEK should also have close to their strongest attack available. UEFA projects Barnabás Varga and Luka Jović together up front, supported by a midfield including Lovro Majer and Răzvan Marin, with no AEK players currently listed as injured or doubtful.
Varga has been in excellent scoring form, while AEK's ability to create goals from several positions makes me reluctant to rely on LASK simply keeping this game under control for 90 minutes.
ATS Expert Verdict

“AEK’s home scoring form and LASK’s recent run of high-scoring matches make Over 2.5 the more appealing way into this matchup. AEK have shown they can push this total over on their own, and if LASK contribute even once, the path to three goals becomes very realistic.”
What makes Over 2.5 more appealing than simply betting an AEK team total is that LASK have been producing high-scoring games themselves.
They beat Deutschlandsberger 6-1 in the Austrian Cup on September 5, won 3-1 away at Wolfsberger, beat Altach 3-0 and produced a remarkable 5-1 Champions League win over Celtic to overturn a 3-0 first-leg deficit.
That does not mean LASK will reproduce those numbers in Athens. Their 3-0 defeat at Celtic in the first leg also showed what can happen when they face stronger opposition away from home. But even that result comfortably cleared this total.
The main concern is personnel. UEFA lists Saša Kalajdžić as unavailable and Samuel Adeniran as doubtful because of a facial injury. Moses Usor and Christoph Lang are projected to lead the attack instead.
That slightly weakens the case for Both Teams to Score, but it does not put me off Over 2.5. AEK have already shown they can do most of the scoring themselves.
Sportsbooks Expect At Least Three Goals
Over 2.5 is currently priced around -144 to -152 across available sportsbooks, which translates to an implied probability of roughly 59% to 60% before accounting for the bookmaker margin. The market is clearly leaning toward goals, so this is not a contrarian pick. The question is whether AEK’s home scoring form and LASK’s recent high-scoring results justify paying that price.
Polymarket Traders Are Closely Aligned
Polymarket currently prices Over 2.5 goals at 59¢, with Under 2.5 at 42¢. A 59¢ price represents roughly a 59% market-implied probability of the game producing at least three goals. That is almost identical to the sportsbook market, giving us useful confirmation that both markets see three or more goals as the more likely outcome.

I still like the Over because the matchup gives us several realistic paths to three goals. AEK have been scoring freely at home, while LASK have consistently been involved in games that clear this number. The ATS model’s projected 2-1 AEK scoreline also lands directly on three total goals, even though its official recommended bet remains AEK on the moneyline.
This is not a contrarian bet.
Current odds comparisons have Over 2.5 trading between roughly -164 to -147. The best number matters here because the market is already assigning a relatively high probability to three or more goals.
Polymarket tells a similar story. Traders currently price Over 3.5 goals around 42%, while Both Teams to Score — Yes is around 63% and LASK to score at least once is around 72%. Those are separate markets rather than direct equivalents to Over 2.5, but they show that prediction-market traders also expect LASK to have a realistic attacking contribution.
There is also an interesting connection to the ATS model pick. While the model prefers AEK on the moneyline, its projected score is AEK 2-1 LASK, with a projected total of exactly three goals.
So I am not necessarily disagreeing with the model's view of the match. I am simply betting the projected game script rather than the result.
The biggest risk is obvious: AEK have kept three straight home clean sheets, and another controlled 2-0 victory would leave the Over one goal short.
But the number of realistic paths to three goals is enough for me. AEK have scored four or more in each of their last three home games, while LASK arrive after four straight victories in which they have scored at least three times themselves.
A 2-1 result fits the matchup well, but so do 3-0 and 3-1.
Pick: Over 2.5 goals at -150 or better
