Teams continue to make their return from the All-Star break with a Tuesday night NHL betting slate of six games on tap. That includes one of our featured NHL betting predictions, for this Sharks vs Lightning matchup.
The Sharks and Bolts are headed in completely different directions with different goals this season. San Jose wants to lose as much as possible to maximize the chance of landing Connor Bedard, while Tampa hopes to win the Eastern Conference for a fourth straight season to get back to the Stanley Cup Finals. As a result, Tampa is a heavy -240 in this one at home against an opponent that would be more than fine with another loss.

This game will be played at Amalie Arena at 7:00 PM ET on Tuesday, February 7, 2023.
Why Bet the Over:
✅ San Jose typically play in high scoring games this season. 17 out of their last 19 contests have featured six goals or more and the Over is 33-16 in their games this season.
✅ The Sharks already flimsy defense is set to get even worse after shipping stay at home blueliner Jaycob Megna out of town in a deal with the Seattle Kraken.
✅ Backup goaltender Brian Elliott will start in goal for Tampa on Tuesday night, removing the chance of hot goaltending from Andrei Vasilevskiy robbing this game of goals.

San Jose Sharks
There isn’t much to talk about the Sharks season coming out of the All-Star break other than they are achieving their goal of being bad and building draft capital. Winners of just 15 games, the Sharks season will be determined a success at the Draft Lottery rather than on the ice.
The one bright spot for the Sharks this season has been Erik Karlsson’s return to a world class level of play. Once considered the best blueliner in hockey, Karlsson is back to that level and is in contention for the Norris Trophy thanks to his offensive output despite playing on one of the worst defensive teams in the league.
Outside of Karlsson, Timo Meier’s play has been solid this season. Meier had 28 goals and 48 points this season but is likely playing his final games for the Sharks as a hot name in the trade deadline market.
James Reimer is expected to start for the Sharks in goal as he continues a trying season for the veteran goalie. Tasked with playing behind a team trying to lose, Reimer has a .895 save percentage and a 3.31 goals against average this season. His numbers were even worse in the lead up to the All-Star break, with a 3.99 goals against average in his last nine games.
Tampa Bay Lightning
Tuesday night’s game provides the Lightning with an opportunity to improve their outstanding home record against one of the league’s worst teams. The Bolts are 20-4-1 this season at Amalie Arena, making securing home ice advantage a high priority when it comes to the second half of the season. Especially considering the team is just 12-12 away from home this year.
Tampa’s return from the All-Star break was a rough one on Monday night. They were embarrassed by their in-state rivals, losing 7-1 to the Florida Panthers in a game that continued their road struggles. The Lightning ran out of energy fast, giving up three goals apiece in the second and third period in a game where they conceded 49 shots on goal.
Backup goaltender Brian Elliott will hope his teammates tighten up the shots allowed against the Sharks. Elliott is 9-3 this season in spot duty but does have a fairly high 3.03 goals against average he is looking to whittle down in a favorable matchup against San Jose.
