Sharks vs Canadiens Player Props: Caufield Looks Set to Stay Busy

The San Jose Sharks visit the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, October 20, and the schedule isn't doing them any favors. San Jose suffered a 3-1 defeat against Toronto on Monday and now faces a Montreal team that has enjoyed two full days of rest.
For player props, I'm looking at Cole Caufield. The Canadiens forward scored twice against Buffalo on Saturday, including the overtime winner, but I'm more interested in his shooting volume than another goal.
Caufield has registered 29 shots on goal through eight games this season, averaging 3.6 per appearance. More importantly, he's recorded at least five shots in four of his last five games. That's quite a workload for someone averaging roughly 20 minutes of ice time.
His position alongside Nick Suzuki and Juraj Slafkovsky on Montreal's first line remains important. With Ivan Demidov sidelined, there's little reason to expect Caufield's offensive responsibilities to diminish, particularly on the power play.
San Jose isn't necessarily a team that gives up an enormous number of shots. However, the Sharks have struggled with consistency, losing four of their last five games, including one in a shootout. Playing on consecutive nights adds another challenge, especially against Montreal's rested top line.
There's certainly a case for Caufield scoring again, particularly after his two-goal performance against Buffalo. Still, I'd rather focus on the shots. Four shots require sustained offensive involvement, whereas another goal depends much more heavily on finishing.
My preferred position is Cole Caufield to record at least four shots on goal, provided a suitable contract becomes available.
I'd put the probability somewhere around 53–55%, making an entry price of 49¢ or lower interesting. At that level, there's enough separation between the implied probability and my estimate to justify considering a trade.
There are risks. Caufield was held without a shot against Washington on October 14, demonstrating how quickly these markets can turn. San Jose has also been reasonably effective at limiting total shots, so I'm not expecting Montreal to dominate every period.
Nevertheless, Caufield's recent volume, consistent top-line role and the scheduling advantage make this my favorite player-prop angle for Tuesday.
