Devils vs Avalanche Player Props: MacKinnon Gets His Rematch

Nathan MacKinnon didn't record a point when Colorado visited New Jersey last week. Seven days later, he gets another opportunity against the Devils, and the circumstances look considerably more favorable.
The Avalanche return to Denver following a disappointing 6-2 loss to Nashville, while New Jersey arrives on the second night of a back-to-back after defeating Dallas.
MacKinnon has recorded 21 points through 12 games, including seven multi-point performances. With his prediction market price for two or more points sitting at just 41¢, I'm particularly interested in Colorado's captain on Wednesday night.

MacKinnon has seven goals and 14 assists this season, averaging 1.75 points per game. More importantly, he's recorded at least two points in seven of his first 12 appearances.
His home performances have been particularly impressive.
MacKinnon is averaging 2.5 points per game at Ball Arena, compared with just 1.0 on the road. He recorded four points against Tampa Bay on Friday, including a goal and three assists, and produced another four-point performance against Pittsburgh earlier this month.
The Avalanche captain continues to play alongside Artturi Lehkonen and Martin Necas, two forwards who have enjoyed productive starts to the season.
Lehkonen leads Colorado with ten goals, while Necas has contributed 16 points. Their finishing ability gives MacKinnon plenty of opportunities to collect assists, even when he doesn't score himself.
At 41¢, the prediction market assigns a relatively modest probability to another multi-point performance. Considering his production and Colorado's favorable scheduling situation, I believe that price is too low.
New Jersey is undoubtedly playing better hockey right now.
The Devils have won four consecutive games, including a 5-1 victory over Dallas on Tuesday. Captain Nico Hischier scored twice, while Jack Hughes continued his productive start with a goal and an assist.
However, Wednesday presents a considerably different challenge.
New Jersey must travel from Dallas to Denver for its second game in as many nights. Colorado, meanwhile, has enjoyed two full days without a game.
The goaltending situation also deserves attention.
Connor Hellebuyck made his Devils debut against Dallas, meaning Jake Allen gets the start against Colorado. Allen has a 5-2-0 record this season, but his .886 save percentage suggests there should be opportunities for the Avalanche.
Colorado has averaged 4.08 goals per game, the NHL's second-highest mark. Its defensive performances have been inconsistent, but the offense remains capable of overwhelming opponents.
New Jersey held MacKinnon scoreless in their previous meeting, despite allowing him five shots. I expect another demanding matchup, although this time the scheduling situation favors Colorado.
Jack Hughes — 1+ Assist at 46¢
Hughes leads New Jersey with ten assists and 14 points through 12 games. He recorded another assist against Dallas on Tuesday and remains the Devils' primary offensive creator. Colorado has conceded 3.25 goals per game, making his 46¢ contract an interesting alternative. The demanding travel schedule is my main concern.
Artturi Lehkonen — 1+ Point at 55¢
Lehkonen has been outstanding, scoring ten goals and collecting 14 points in 12 appearances. He has recorded eight points in his last five games and remains an important part of Colorado's first line. His recent production makes 55¢ appealing, although his exceptionally high shooting percentage is unlikely to remain sustainable.
Martin Necas — 1+ Point at 68¢
Necas has six goals and ten assists through 12 games, giving him 16 points. His chemistry with MacKinnon makes him a strong candidate to contribute against New Jersey, but the 68¢ entry price is considerably less attractive than his teammate's two-point contract.
