The Philadelphia Flyers will visit the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday night in a matchup between two Eastern Conference contenders. Buffalo enters this contest at home in KeyBank Center with a strong recent record and firmly in playoff contention in the Eastern Conference. Can the Sabres hold serve on home ice in this matchup? I'll attempt to answer that question below as I make my Flyers vs Sabres prediction for this matchup.

Game Snapshot
- Matchup: Philadelphia Flyers @ Buffalo Sabres
- Date & Time: January 14, 2026, 7:30 PM ET
- Venue: KeyBank Center, Buffalo, New York
- Broadcast: TNT
Key Storylines
- Buffalo enters this game with a 14-6-2 home record that is the product of consistent scoring on home ice. The Sabres recently saw a six-game home winning streak snapped in a loss to the Florida Panthers, but their overall form has been elite and that has propelled the Sabres back into Wild Card contention in the Atlantic Division for the year.
- Philadelphia is coming off a string of losses, dropping three straight games and struggling to find consistency on the road. Their offensive output has been poor of late, and they have shown discipline issues with high penalty minutes racked up recently.
- Injuries could play a role here. Buffalo is without goaltender Alex Lyon indefinitely and defenseman Conor Timmins for weeks following a broken leg. Philadelphia has several absences, including Jamie Drysdale and Tyson Foerster, and Bobby Brink is listed as day-to-day. The team that can best overcome their injury issues will give themselves the best chance in this one.
- Key players in this game include Sabres forwards Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch, who have been productive this season. The Flyers are led by Travis Konecny, who leads Philadelphia in scoring. Goalie performance, especially for Buffalo with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen likely in net, will be pivotal. Luukkonen has been excellent in a reserve role this season and he will try to continue doing so in this matchup from Western New York.
Head-to-Head & Betting Trends
- These teams are 1-1 against each other so far this season, with the home team winning each of the two games they have played this year.
- Philadelphia is 10-7-3 on the road so far this season.
- Buffalo is 14-6-2 in their home games on the year.

Final Thoughts
I'm going to take the Buffalo Sabres to win on home ice over the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night. The Sabres have been playing high-level hockey of late and that should continue here against a Flyers team that has been outscored 14-4 over their last three games. I'll lay the juice with Buffalo here in what should be an interesting matchup from New York State.
