This Wednesday night, the Ottawa Senators will play on the road against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Both clubs have had dismal seasons, ranking near the bottom of their respective divisions and coming into this game on four-game losing streaks. Who will come away with the win in this matchup to end their losing streak? Continue reading to find my Senators vs Rangers prediction below.
Pick: | Over 6.5 ATS PRO |
Confidence: | 3/5 |
New York has endured a rough patch of late, losing four straight and seven of its last eight games. The club has been impacted by a rash of injuries, with notable absences including defenseman Adam Fox and goalie Igor Shesterkin, slowing the Rangers’ ability to find consistency. Veteran goalie Jonathan Quick has been pressed into frequent starts, but the results have not materialized with the team dropping the last several outings in which he has appeared. One of those games was a 10-2 loss to the Boston Bruins, and the Rangers will try to recover from their recent struggles tonight.
Meanwhile, the Senators are also dealing with performance issues, having lost four of their last five games entering Wednesday night. The Sens are dealing with inconsistent goaltending, prompting the club to sign veteran James Reimer to stabilize that position. Ottawa snapped a multi‑game skid with a win over Vancouver in their last game and now looks to build on that momentum against a struggling Rangers lineup. Both teams are in seventh place in their respective divisions and need to start winning some games in order to keep their fading playoff hopes from slipping further away.
Past meetings: Rangers won 4‑2 earlier this season.
Puckline and O/U records: The Rangers are 23-24 on the puckline this season. The under has hit in 28 of New York's 47 games going into this contest. Ottawa is 17-28 in the puckline market going into Wednesday night. The over is 26-19 in Senators games this year.
Home/road splits: Ottawa is 10-10-2 on the road so far this season. The Rangers are 5-12-4 in their home games this year.
Score Projection: Senators 4 – Rangers 3 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Senators 54%, Rangers 46% ATS PRO
It's hard to trust either of these teams to come away with a win here, based on the way that both teams have been playing. Instead, I'm going to take the over in this matchup, as these teams have both struggled defensively and we should see them pile up some goals in a game that both teams could desperately use as they try to get their playoff aspirations back on track.
