The New Jersey Devils (16-11-1) will face the Boston Bruins (16-13-0) at TD Garden on Saturday night. Both teams are looking to climb the standings in their respective divisions, as they are just a handful of points back of first place. New Jersey arrives reeling from four straight losses, including back-to-back shutouts, while Boston enters fresh off a 5–2 win over the St. Louis Blues. Here, I break down this matchup in the NHL and give you my Devils vs Bruins prediction for what should be an interesting game on the ice.

The Devils are in a slump. Last night, they dropped a 3–0 decision to the Vegas Golden Knights. That was their second straight shutout loss and third of the season. Their once-strong home record has evaporated, and they come into this game at 7-7-0 on the road. Boston has enjoyed a boost of confidence after a 5–2 win over St. Louis in which several players contributed offensively. The momentum going into this game is on the side of the Bruins and it will be interesting to see if they can take advantage.
For New Jersey, goaltending has been a weak link lately. The tandem of Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen hasn’t provided consistency. Allen has been better statistically than Markstron for the year, but neither has been able to mask the team's defensive lapses. Boston is expected to go with Jeremy Swayman in net, who has handled the bulk of the workload this season with 11 wins in 18 starts. With New Jersey’s shooting and finishing problems of late, Swayman could be in for a good night in net.
On offense, New Jersey’s top line of Nico Hischier, Jesper Bratt, and Timo Meier remains the main hope for offensive success. Hischier has six goals in his last eight games and remains perhaps their most consistent scorer, while Bratt leads the team in assists with 21, though goals have been sparse. Meier has scored five goals over his last eight outings.
On Boston’s side, Morgan Geekie has surged offensively this season. He is leading the team with 21 goals through 29 games and has a team-high point total of 31. Additionally, forward Elias Lindholm has been setting up plays effectively, including multiple assists in the Bruins' most recent game.
Score Projection: New Jersey Devils 3 – Boston Bruins 4
Win Probability: Devils 48%, Bruins 52%
I like the idea of backing the underdog to win this game on home ice. The Devils are struggling of late and they are on the second game of a back-to-back here. All of that should add up to a win for the home team at a plus price on Saturday night in Beantown.
