The New Jersey Devils will visit the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday night in the NHL. New Jersey is playing on the road for the fourth game in a row, while the Ducks are looking to continue their current hot streak on home ice. Here, you can find my breakdown of this game on the ice, including my Devils vs Ducks prediction.
The Devils are coming off a 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings where Dawson Mercer scored two short-handed goals and goaltender Jacob Markström stopped 43 shots. The win snapped a two-game losing streak and moved the Devils to 9-3-0 for the season. Anaheim has gone 4-1 in its last five games and they have won two games in a row entering this contest.
New Jersey's goaltending situation could be a question mark in this game. Markstrom was great in New Jersey's last outing but he could be rotated out of action on the second night of a back-to-back. Anaheim will likely go with Lukas Dostal, who has a 2.74 GAA and a .909 save percentage this season. The Ducks could have the advantage in net if Markstrom doesn't play.
Jack Hughes is leading the offense of the Devils with nine goals in 12 games. Jesper Bratt leads the Devils with nine assists so far this year. Anaheim’s Leo Carlsson leads the Ducks with 15 points (5 goals, 10 assists) and Troy Terry has five goals and eight assists. The Devils have the better top-end talent, but they could suffer as a result of their rest disadvantage.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Jack Hughes (NJ) | Under 1.5 points |
Cutter Gauthier (ANA) | Over 0.5 goals |
Score Projection: New Jersey Devils 3 – Anaheim Ducks 4
Win Probability: New Jersey Devils 47%, Anaheim Ducks 53%
The Ducks have a rest advantage going into this game, with the Devils playing for the second night in a row. We should see Anaheim take advantage of the tired legs of the Devils here and I will take the Ducks to get the win at home in this matchup from California.
