The Montreal Canadiens travel to Denver to face the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday afternoon in what promises to be a lively encounter at Ball Arena. Both teams are on the second game of a back-to-back heading into this contest. Colorado had an impressive winning streak snapped in their last game and will try to bounce back on home ice here. Before the puck is dropped in Denver, you can find my Canadiens vs Avalanche prediction below.

The Avalanche are likely to turn to Mackenzie Blackwood in goal. Colorado’s defensive metrics stand among the best in the league with 2.08 goals allowed per game on the season. Their stinginess in net and ability to limit dangerous chances have been major drivers of success.
On the Montreal side, it should be Jakub Dobes in net going into this contest. Dobes has a better GAA than starting netminder Sam Montembeault and he should give Montreal their best shot to win this game against the best team in the league.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Cale Makar (Avalanche) | Over 0.5 assists |
Nathan MacKinnon (Avalanche) | Anytime goal scorer |
Cole Caufield (Canadiens) | Anytime goal scorer |
Score Projection: Avalanche 4 – Canadiens 3
Win Probability: Avalanche 68%, Canadiens 32%
Colorado has glided through the season with elite offensive output and stable, stingy defense. But I think that they are in for a closer game than usual in this contest. The Avs are on the second leg of a back-to-back here and they should be in for a tough test here against a capable Canadiens team. I'll take the Canadiens to win on the puckline here on Saturday afternoon.
