Metropolitan Division Favorites
The winners of the Metropolitan Division in the NHL last season were the New York Rangers, who finished with the best record in this division and in the NHL as a whole. Their 114 points were the best in the league, which meant home-ice advantage in the playoffs. This year, the Rangers are struggling to keep up with some of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, though, as their division title defense is on thin ice (pun intended).
The current favorites in the NHL Metro Division are the New Jersey Devils and Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes nearly took the Rangers out in the playoffs a season ago and will have their sights set on revenge against them throughout this season. Meanwhile, the Devils are healthy again which has meant a great start to the season, especially on the road where they have been thoroughly impressive.
Also in contention in the Metro Division to this point in the year are the Washington Capitals. Washington is near the top of the standings in this division. And while they are behind the Devils and Hurricanes in the odds to win this division, their level of play on the ice could change that status in a hurry.
2024-25 Metropolitan Division Longshots
Outside of the Rangers, Devils, Capitals, and Hurricanes, it is hard to see any of the other teams in this division rising up to finish in first place. The New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Columbus Blue Jackets are all facing a deficit that they will have to climb out of in order to win this division title. And if the Rangers aren’t careful, they will join these four teams as longshots to win the Metro sooner rather than later.
