As the Dallas Stars head into New Jersey to face the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday, both teams are playing high-level hockey. Both clubs are among the top teams in their divisions and will try to get a statement win in this game in Newark. Before the puck drops in New Jersey, you can find my analysis for this game below, which includes my Stars vs Devils prediction.

The Stars are playing well going into this contest. They enter this contest at 17‑5‑5 overall, and on the road their record sits at a stellar 9‑1‑4. They did lose in overtime to the Rangers last night, but they are 7‑1‑2 over their last 10 games. Dallas will have to overcome a rest disadvantage here, though, as they are on the second game of a back-to-back.
The Devils come in at 16‑9‑1 overall, but they have lost their last two games coming into this one. They dropped their most recent home game 5‑3 to the Columbus Blue Jackets and lost 5-3 at home to the Philadelphia Flyers in the game before that. New Jersey will try to get things back on track defensively here.
Dallas used backup goaltender Casey DeSmith in their last game against the Rangers. The expectation is that Jake Oettinger will start tonight. Oettinger is 11-4-2 on the season and will try to continue his solid start in this contest. New Jersey is likely to go with Jake Allen in goal for this game. Allen is 10th in the NHL in GAA at 2.48 and he has been better than Jacob Markstrom this season.
The Stars feature dangerous forwards across multiple lines. Wyatt Johnston has been red-hot and historically performs well against New Jersey. He’s recorded 8 points in his last 5 games vs the Devils, including multiple multi-point nights. Mikko Rantanen has also been productive against New Jersey, averaging 1.20 points per game in his career against them. For New Jersey, Jesper Bratt is up to 21 assists for the season and will try to drive the Devils' offense again tonight.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Wyatt Johnston (DAL) | Over 0.5 Points |
Jason Robertson (DAL) | Over 0.5 Goals |
Nico Hischier (NJD) | Over 0.5 Points |
Score Projection: Dallas Stars 2 – New Jersey Devils 3
Win Probability: Dallas Stars 49%, New Jersey Devils 51%
The rest advantage for the Devils should be the difference maker in this contest. I'm going to take the Devils to win this game on home ice against a Stars team that is trying to overcome playing in an overtime game just last night.
