✅ The Calgary Flames were one of the top defensive teams in the NHL during the regular season, allowing 2.48 goals per game, third overall. Jacob Markstrom had arguably the best season in the NHL, posting a 2.22 GAA and a .922 save percentage. The shutout victory was his 10th of the season.
Dallas Stars
The Dallas Stars (46-30-6; 34-48 ATS) were able to shut down this potent Calgary offense in Game 1, only giving up the one goal, but they had no answers for Jacob Markstrom in the 1-0 loss. Jake Oettinger played very well for the Stars, stopping 25 of 26 shots. He had been outstanding for Dallas in the regular season, posting a 2.53 GAA and a .914 save percentage.
That Dallas was shut down offensively in Game 1 has to be a concern for this team. They are the only club in the playoffs with a negative goal differential (-8) and were last among playoff teams with 238 goals scored. The club averages 2.81 goals per game during the regular season, but only 2.45 on the road. Oettinger will have to stand on his head once again as this team is going to have a chance of winning Game 2.
Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames (50-21-11; 45-37 ATS) earned a 1-0 victory thanks to the stellar performance of their goaltender, Jacob Markstrom. Markstrom closed out the regular season by allowing eight total goals in his last four contests. He finished the regular season third in goals-against average (2.22) and was first in shutouts (9). Markstrom was tied for third in save percentage (.922).
Because of the performance of their goaltender, the Flames only needed one goal in this game to win, and that is what Elias Lindholm provided for them. Lindholm finished the regular season tied for the team lead in goals with 42. Johnny Gaudreau had an assist on the tally. He led the club in points with 115. Calgary was not just a good defensive team, averaging 3.52 goals per game during the regular season, sixth overall.
