Vikings vs Bears Prediction & Preview: A 2-0 Start On the Line In Chicago

Minnesota and Chicago both enter Sunday at 1-0, but they got there in very different ways. The Bears opened with a 59-37 road win over Carolina and produced 552 yards, while the Vikings rallied from 12 points down late in the third quarter to beat Green Bay 39-22. Minnesota’s win came with a major complication, as Kyler Murray left with a concussion and Carson Wentz is expected to start at Soldier Field. But Chicago’s defensive performance in Week 1 also keeps this matchup more open than the Week 1 scores suggest.
Why Our Model Sees Value:
“Chicago’s 59-point opener is getting major respect in the current market, but the Bears still allowed 478 total yards and 37 points in that game. Minnesota has enough receiving talent, defensive pressure, and turnover creating ability to make a 32% win probability too low.”
Chicago Heavily Favored at Home
Polymarket currently prices Chicago at 69¢ and Minnesota at 32¢ on the game winner market. The spread market has Minnesota +5.5 at 51¢, while the total sits at 48.5 with the under priced at 52¢. Those numbers show a market that has clearly upgraded Chicago after Week 1 while discounting Minnesota because of Murray’s concussion and the likelihood that Wentz starts.
Value On the Underdog
My model still makes Chicago the more likely winner overall, but not by the margin implied by a 69¢ price. Minnesota grades closer to 36% to win outright, creating a 4.0% edge at 32¢. The Vikings are playable up to 34¢ before too much of that advantage disappears. Their upset path is viable, because Chicago’s defense gave up 361 passing yards to Bryce Young, and Minnesota can attack that weakness with Justin Jefferson and T.J. Hockenson even if Wentz starts.

Minnesota, Chicago and Detroit are all 1-0, while Green Bay is 0-1. The Vikings already own a division win after beating the Packers, so a road victory here would give them a 2-0 start and two early NFC North wins. Chicago can answer by moving to 2-0 and handing Minnesota its first division loss. It is far too early to call this a decisive game, but division games carry extra value in a race expected to stay close at the top.
The Bears ran for 291 yards and six touchdowns against Carolina. D’Andre Swift led the way with 124 yards on 18 carries and three scores, while Kyle Monangai also cleared 100 yards. That ground attack can force Minnesota to defend horizontally and create easier throws for Caleb Williams.
Minnesota did hold Green Bay to 66 rushing yards in Week 1, so this is a much stronger test for both sides. If the Vikings can prevent Chicago from living in favorable down-and-distance situations, Brian Flores can dial up pressure packages and force Williams to make faster decisions.
Williams was highly efficient in the opener, completing 21 of 29 passes for 269 yards, two passing touchdowns and no interceptions. He also ran for 65 yards and two scores. Minnesota, however, changed its opener with pressure and takeaways, forcing two Green Bay turnovers.
The concern for Minnesota is that Green Bay still piled up 419 total yards and 353 net passing yards. Chicago has the personnel to punish aggressive pressure if Williams identifies the open space quickly. This matchup could decide the outcome of the NFL predictions for this matchup.
Wentz completed 12 of 19 passes for 133 yards and three touchdowns after replacing Murray. Jefferson caught eight passes for 92 yards and two scores. Chicago allowed Carolina to gain 478 yards, including 353 net passing yards, so Minnesota should have opportunities through the air.
The key is whether Wentz can avoid negative plays against a faster Chicago defense on the road. Minnesota produced only 239 total yards against Green Bay, which makes it difficult to trust the Vikings as the more likely winner. At 32¢, though, the price does not require Minnesota to be the better team. It only requires the upset probability to be understated, and this matchup gives the Vikings enough paths to make that the case.
