A face-off between familiar faces will take place on Sunday during NFL Wild Card weekend, as the Rams vs Lions game from Detroit features two quarterbacks facing their old teams. Jared Goff went to a Super Bowl with the Rams, while Matthew Stafford appeared in the playoffs with the Lions, before the two swapped teams and Stafford won a Super Bowl in Los Angeles. Now, they face off in what should be a fascinating matchup.
In this game, we like the LA Rams to cover the spread as a three-point underdog. Los Angeles comes into this game having won four games in a row, getting hot just when they needed to in order to secure a spot in the playoffs as the sixth-seed in the NFC. After battling injuries on offense for most of this year, the Rams are as healthy as they have been in a long time, especially at quarterback and at the skill positions.
Meanwhile, an injury for Detroit could deal them a crucial blow going into Rams vs Lions. Tight end Sam LaPorta suffered a knee injury last week, sparking debate over whether or not head coach Dan Campbell should have rested some of his key players in Week 18. LaPorta could miss this game entirely, or play through the injury. Either way, one of the most important weapons at Jared Goff’s disposal will not be at 100% from a health perspective going into the biggest game of their season so far.
Also important to keep in mind is the level of familiarity the Rams have with Jared Goff. While Stafford played for the Lions for many years, he did not play under the current coaching staff in Detroit. Goff played under Rams head coach Sean McVay, which could lead to the Rams knowing just how to game plan for their former signal caller this weekend.
