The Colts didn’t do much of anything from a movement standpoint in the offseason. They added a couple of bit part players and lost a few on the other side. But the most important thing for this franchise has been getting Richardson healthy so that he can help them to live up to the hype that was set for them going into last season.

Indianapolis wasn’t terrible offensively when you take into account the fact that they lost their starting quarterback early in the year. Expectations will be much higher for the Colts offense this year, though, as they expect to have Richardson on the field for the duration of the year. Keeping Jonathan Taylor should be huge for the offense of the Colts, something that did not look like a guarantee for most of last year.

The Colts need to be better on the defensive side of the ball if they are going to elevate themselves to the top of the AFC South. Indy finished in the bottom-five in scoring defense last year, with their defense betraying them at the end of the season in a win-or-go-home game against the Houston Texans. For the Colts to have any chance to surpass the Texans in this division, they are going to need to find a way to dig in and get some stops.
Positives & Negatives
The biggest positive for the Colts this season is that they have their starting quarterback on the field once again. The toughest thing for a team to do in football is to adjust on the fly to quarterback changes when your whole season was prepped with a specific player in mind at that position. If the Colts can avoid that again this year, they could be in for a year where they get back to the top of their division.
However, this team will only go as far as their defense will take them. Even if Richardson plays and is effective, if this team is a bottom-five scoring defense again in 2024, they will not make meaningful improvements in the standings.
