Houston Texans
The Houston Texans were blown out by the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, dropping them to 2-13-1 on the season. Houston started to play a little better in the second half of the season, giving teams like the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs scares down the stretch. But the Texans are one loss away from locking up the top pick in the next NFL Draft, and it would take some first class tanking from the Colts to deny them that.
Houston’s defense has long been one of the worst in the NFL, and this year has been no exception. Houston ranks 30th in total defense and dead last against the run. Expect another rough defensive showing for the Texans here to close out their season.
Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts were also blown out last week, getting crushed by the New York Giants in Week 17. Indianapolis is 4-11-1 coming into the final week of the season, and there are huge draft implications for them this week as well. A loss would keep the Colts no worse than fifth in the next draft, though they would need to lose to a terrible Texans team to achieve that.
This week, it will be Sam Ehlinger at quarterback for the Colts, after Nick Foles suffered an injury last week against the Giants. Ehlinger already had one spell at quarterback this season, and was ineffective, prompting Jeff Saturday to go back to Matt Ryan after taking over as interim head coach. Saturday is likely to be taking on his last game as a head coach this week, barring a permanent hire by Jim Irsay.
