- The 49ers struggled out of the gates in the playoffs, barely squeaking by the Green Bay Packers, and Deebo Samuel’s injury will not help them this week either.

This year’s NFC Championship Game is a true David vs Goliath battle, as the San Francisco 49ers host the Detroit Lions in Santa Clara. The top-seeded 49ers have been fixtures at the top of the NFC in recent years, while this is the first time since 1991 that the Lions have won a postseason game. Here, we make our prediction for Lions vs 49ers and break down the keys to this massive contest for the NFC title.
While the 49ers are at home and have been dominant throughout this season, winning 11 games by double-digits, we are taking the seven points with the underdog Detroit Lions. A big reason for that is the injury to Deebo Samuel that kept him out of last week’s Divisional playoff win over the Green Bay Packers. While Samuel should play in some capacity this week, he is not at 100% and that should do some major harm to the 49ers offense.
Another detriment to the San Francisco offense will be the pass rush of the Detroit Lions. Detroit has been getting pressure consistently in the playoffs so far, something that should continue this weekend. If they can hurry Brock Purdy into some rushed throws, the typically efficient 49ers offense could run into the same roadblocks they did last week against Green Bay.
While the Niners as a whole have more playoff experience than the Lions right now, the Lions have the edge in the quarterback experience department. Jared Goff has made it to a Super Bowl and has won an NFC Championship Game before, while Purdy was not able to play for the entirety of last year’s NFC title game due to injury. While the Niners should win this game, we will take the points with a Detroit team looking to shock the world.
