The Cowboys let more talent go than they brought in this offseason, unless you count a group of uninspiring running back acquisitions like the returning Zeke Elliott and Royce Freeman. This is something they could afford to have happen given how good they are on both sides of the ball. But Elliott being listed as the team’s top running back on the depth chart going into the summer is some scary stuff, and not in a positive way for Dallas.

One thing that jumps off the page from the Cowboys offensively last season is the fact that they cut back on their turnovers dramatically. Dak Prescott went from throwing the most interceptions in football in 2022 to being outside of the top-15 in interceptions thrown in 2023. That will need to continue this season with the Cowboys’ running game being a bit of a question mark entering the season.

For the first time since 2020, the Dallas Cowboys did not lead the NFL in takeaways last season. However, they did finish top-five in scoring defense. Some of that has to do with the fact that they played the Giants and Commanders twice. But that isn’t changing anytime soon and Dallas will continue to be a threat to opposing offenses as long as Micah Parsons and their weapons in the secondary are all on the field.
Positives & Negatives
The biggest positive for the Cowboys going into the 2023 season is their defense, as that group should be one of the best in football again during the 2024 season. Dallas proved last year that it does not need to be the best in the league at getting takeaways in order to win football games. That is encouraging, even if they would like to see better numbers on the turnover front in 2024.
As far as weaknesses go for this team, the running game is a major question mark this year. Deuce Vaughn might be the best running back on this team right now, as Zeke Elliott is no longer a consistently productive player and Rico Dowdle has yet to prove he can be a featured back. Prescott and the passing game might have to carry the Dallas offense throughout the upcoming season.
2024 Dallas Cowboys Win Total Prediction: Over 10.5 Wins
Despite some concerns on the offensive side of the ball, we will take the over on the Dallas Cowboys season win total. They will be favorites in at least four division games right off the bat this season, barring any sort of injury-related catastrophes. And with the majority of their toughest games coming at home, they should be able to get comfortably into double-figures in wins in the season to come.
