Buffalo Bills Betting Preview
The Buffalo Bills were one of the top teams in the NFL last season, but they fell in the AFC Divisional playoff round, losing at home to the Kansas City Chiefs. This year, the Bills are once again led by Josh Allen at quarterback, but Stefon Diggs is gone and the Bills defense will look much different than it did a season ago. In our 2024 Buffalo Bills season preview, we talk about those changes and what they could mean for the Bills in the season win total market.

Buffalo Bills Picks, Predictions & Betting News
Offseason Transactions
Key Additions: Chase Claypool, Mack Hollins, Curtis Samuel, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, La’el Collins, Jordan Phillips, Deion Jones, Taron Johnson, Mike Edwards
Key Departures: Gabe Davis, Stefon Diggs, Trent Sherfield, Mitch Morse, Leonard Floyd, Shaq Lawson, Poona Ford, Linval Joseph, Dane Jackson, Tre’Davious White, Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer
While the big story of the offseason for the Bills was the departure of Stefon Diggs, Buffalo did a nice job of replenishing their receiving corps with talent. The real question will be how the defense of the Bills holds up after the exodus of talent they experienced in the secondary. While Tre’Davious White and the rest of that secondary has been plagued by injuries over the last couple of years, that group was elite when healthy and could be in trouble after so many exits.
Buffalo Bills Offensive Stats
2023 (Rank) | 2022 (Rank) | |
---|---|---|
Yards Per Play | 5.6 (T-7th) | 6.1 (2nd) |
Yards Per Rush Attempt | 4.4 (T-7th) | 5.1 (T-2nd) |
Yards Per Pass Attempt | 7.2 (T-11th) | 7.5 (T-7th) |
Points Per Game | 26.5 (6th) | 28.4 (2nd) |
Turnovers | 28 (T-23rd) | 27 (30th) |
Buffalo has one of the better offenses in the NFL, with the dual-threat ability of Josh Allen being a big reason for that. Allen is one of the few quarterbacks in the league who actively looks to run, which makes the Bills tougher to guard than most teams. But his turnovers are a concern and have held his team back from reaching its full potential, something that could be the case again in 2024.
Buffalo Bills Defensive Stats
2023 (Rank) | 2022 (Rank) | |
---|---|---|
Yards Per Play Allowed | 5.3 (T-16th) | 5.1 (T-7th) |
Yards Per Rush Attempt Allowed | 4.7 (T-28th) | 4.3 (T-11th) |
Yards Per Pass Attempt Allowed | 6.1 (T-6th) | 5.9 (T-4th) |
Points Per Game Allowed | 18.4 (4th) | 17.9 (2nd) |
Takeaways | 30 (3rd) | 27 (T-4th) |
On defense, Buffalo was a top-five team in terms of points allowed and turnovers generated last season. But this year could look very different for Buffalo, as they are going to have a very different group in the secondary than they did in 2023. In a division with Aaron Rodgers and Tua Tagovailoa at quarterback, a lack of continuity in the secondary could be a major concern.
Positives & Negatives
For Buffalo, the biggest positive is still going to be its offense and its passing game. Josh Allen is going to be one of the top contenders for NFL MVP again this year, even if he turns the ball over more than you’d like a star quarterback to turn the ball over. While there may be an early adjustment period without Diggs and Gabe Davis, the Bills should be fine on that side of the ball.
But the secondary is going to be a negative for the Bills this year, in our opinion. They lost a couple of Pro Bowl caliber players in White, Hyde, and Poyer, even if the health of that trio was never a given. Buffalo could be a lot leakier in the defensive backfield than they have been in years past, which could stop them from winning the AFC East.
2024 Buffalo Bills Win Total Prediction: Under 10.5 Wins
We don’t expect the Buffalo Bills to be bad by any stretch of the imagination this season. But they may very well fall short of the 10.5 win total that has been set for them going into the season. A slight regression from the offense combined with a potential for some struggles on defense could mean an end to the Bills’ run at the top of their division, as we will play the under in the season win total market for Buffalo.
