The first round series between the Toronto Raptors and Cleveland Cavaliers has tightened into a best-of-three, with Game 5 set to give one team the lead on Wednesday night. Toronto won Game 4 with a gritty 93-89 victory, leaning on its defense and timely scoring to even the series at 2-2. Now the scene shifts back to Cleveland, where the Cavaliers enter as heavy favorites. Here, I break down this pivotal matchup and make my Raptors vs Cavaliers Game 5 prediction.
Through four games, this series has evolved into a defensive battle. Toronto’s Game 4 win came despite its shooting struggles from beyond the arc, hitting just 4 of 30 attempts, yet still controlling the game through free throws and defensive stops. Cleveland has enjoyed periods of elite offense but has struggled with turnovers and consistency late in games.
The Cleveland Cavaliers return home for Game 5, where they have been more efficient defensively, and oddsmakers clearly trust that advantage, installing them as 8.5-point favorites. Still, Toronto has already proven it can win in multiple ways, whether through efficient scoring as seen in Game 3 or through its defensive play in Game 4. This game will come down to which team can hold its nerve in the biggest moments.
Cleveland Cavaliers
Toronto Raptors
Cleveland enters Game 5 with the edge in offensive efficiency and home-court advantage, but the numbers suggest the gap between these teams is smaller than the spread implies. The Cavaliers averaged nearly 120 points per game during the season, yet Toronto has successfully slowed the pace and forced a more physical style that limits easy scoring chances. My projections suggest that the Cavs will win this game, but that the Raptors will cover the spread in another tight, defensive game.
