The San Antonio Spurs head into Game 4 with a 2-1 series lead after a strong road win on Friday night, and they now sit one victory away from taking full control of their Western Conference semifinal series against the Minnesota Timberwolves. San Antonio leaned heavily on Victor Wembanyama in Game 3, and the young superstar responded with one of the best playoff performances of his career. Minnesota still has the firepower to even the series at home, though the pressure is now squarely on Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle to deliver a cleaner offensive showing. Here, I break down this matchup and make my Spurs vs Timberwolves Game 4 prediction.
San Antonio has looked sharper on both ends of the floor since dropping Game 1. The San Antonio Spurs dominated Game 2 in a 133-95 blowout before grinding out a 115-108 victory in Minneapolis in Game 3. Their defensive activity around the rim has changed the series, with Wembanyama erasing drives and forcing Minnesota into difficult jump shots.
The Timberwolves still have enough talent to turn the series around, but their offensive consistency remains a concern. Anthony Edwards scored 32 points in Game 3 and looked healthier after dealing with knee soreness earlier in the postseason, yet Minnesota still struggled to generate efficient offense late in the game. Julius Randle and Jaden McDaniels combined for difficult shooting nights, and Minnesota cannot afford another uneven effort in a game that could decide the direction of the series.
Game 4 sets up as a tense spot for Minnesota, but San Antonio has looked like the steadier team through most of the series. Wembanyama is controlling both ends of the floor, and the Spurs have found ways to speed up the game when Minnesota struggles to get organized offensively. San Antonio also has the edge in shot creation late in games, especially when Fox and Wembanyama are operating together in the pick-and-roll. I think we see a very close game here, one the Spurs will win, but the Wolves will cover.
