Key Storylines
- The Boston Celtics lead the series 3-1 and is coming off a 32-point blowout win in Game 4 and they have a chance to close out this series with a win at home as a heavy favorite in Game 5.
- Philadelphia has struggled defensively, allowing 120+ points in two of the four games in this series so far.
- Joel Embiid returned in Game 4, but the team still lost the rebounding battle 51-30 and lost by a wide margin despite some good individual play in Game 4.
- Boston’s three-point shooting has been a major edge, hitting over 45% in Game 4. Bench players like Payton Pritchard and Baylor Scheierman have helped them to create separation throughout this series.
Key Players
Boston Celtics
- Jayson Tatum leads the offense with 30 points, 11 assists, and 7 rebounds in Game 4 and averages around 10 rebounds per game in the series.
- Jaylen Brown averages 28.7 points per game and provides steady scoring on strong efficiency, even with his usage decreasing since Tatum's return.
- Payton Pritchard exploded for 32 points off the bench in Game 4, showing Boston’s depth advantage.
- Derrick White contributes 5.4 assists per game and plays a key defensive role in slowing opposing guards
Philadelphia 76ers
- Tyrese Maxey leads the Philadelphia 76ers with 28.3 points and 6.6 assists per game, carrying much of the offensive load, but he hasn't been enough to help Philly stay in this series so far.
- Joel Embiid returned with 26 points and 10 rebounds in Game 4 but is still working back into form after surgery.
- Andre Drummond averages 8.4 rebounds and provides interior presence, though Boston has controlled the glass.
- Paul George added 16 points in Game 4 but needs a larger scoring role for Philadelphia to compete.
Head-to-Head & Betting Trends
- The regular season series was split 2-2, though Boston has controlled the playoff series between these teams, going up 3-1.
- Philadelphia is 46-41 against the spread this season.
- Boston is 51-35 against the spread this year.
76ers vs Celtics Game 5 Model Projection
- Score Projection: Philadelphia 76ers 102 - Boston Celtics 116
- Win Probability: Philadelphia 76ers 28%, Boston Celtics 72%
Boston has controlled nearly every aspect of this series. Their ability to stretch the floor, combined with efficient ball movement and strong rebounding, has created consistent scoring runs. The Game 4 blowout highlighted the gap between these teams, especially with Boston’s bench production being as good as it was. Philadelphia’s defense has not held up, and even with Embiid back, the team has struggled to match Boston’s pace and spacing. I expect Boston to win convincingly in Game 5 to close this series out and set up a second-round matchup with either the New York Knicks or Atlanta Hawks.
