Game 5 between the Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks is scheduled for Tuesday with the series tied 2-2 and tension building after a huge swing in Game 4. New York responded to two straight losses with a commanding 114-98 win behind a historic triple-double from Karl-Anthony Towns, regaining control of the series and home-court advantage. Atlanta now faces a difficult road test at Madison Square Garden against a Knicks team that has shown the ability to dominate on both ends, as both teams seek a 3-2 lead with a win in Hawks vs Knicks Game 5.
The biggest storyline in this game centers on New York’s response after tying the series with a dominant Game 4 performance. The Knicks forced 19 turnovers and shot nearly 50% from the field, showing a defensive and offensive balance that Atlanta struggled to match. Towns’ triple-double effort highlighted his ability to impact the game in multiple ways, especially as a facilitator. But the New York Knicks have struggled to sustain their level of play and they need to figure out how to avoid another letdown here.
For Atlanta, consistency remains a concern as well. The Hawks have dominated portions of this series, including the majority of their Game 3 win, but their perimeter shooting dipped sharply in Game 4, hitting just 24.4% from three. If that trend continues, it will be difficult to keep pace with a Knicks team that thrives with their half-court execution at home.

The numbers point toward a Knicks advantage heading into Game 5. New York has the stronger defense, allowing just 110.1 points per game compared to Atlanta’s 116.0, and they have shown the ability to control pace at home. The betting market reflects this gap, with the Knicks listed as 6.5-point favorites and holding roughly a 70% implied chance to win.
However, I don't think the Knicks will win by enough to cover the spread here. New York's defense has been inconsistent late in games, and I'm not expecting New York to get out to a big enough lead to insulate them from that. This should be a one or two-possession game that the Knicks win, while the Hawks cover the number.
