The Chicago Cubs head west to open a series against the San Diego Padres in a matchup featuring two clubs off strong starts but trending in different directions over the past few days. Chicago built its record on consistent offense and timely pitching, while San Diego continues to lean on elite pitching and a lineup that has produced against left-handed starters. With both teams sitting near the top of their respective divisions, this Cubs vs Padres game is an important one for both sides.

Cubs vs Padres Model Projection
- Score Projection: Chicago Cubs 4 - San Diego Padres 6
- Win Probability: Chicago Cubs 44%, San Diego Padres 56%
San Diego holds the clear edge on the mound in this spot. Vásquez has been efficient and consistent, while Boyd has struggled to limit damage and now faces a Padres lineup that handles left-handed pitching well. That combination alone tilts the outlook toward the home side, especially in a pitcher-friendly environment like Petco Park. My projection for this game is for the Padres to win by two runs, though I'm inclined to take them to win on the moneyline rather than laying the runline here.
