Offseason Transactions

The Lakers made several moves in the offseason, which has become the norm for them as they try to win titles with their core of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. They brought in Christian Wood and Jaxson Hayes, which will allow Anthony Davis to achieve his dream of never playing center again. The loss of Dennis Schroder could hurt this team at the point guard spot, but there is still plenty of talent here, and their offseason losses are not going to be all that impactful.
Positives & Negatives
As far as positives go, the Lakers now have some size and some versatility with that size in the form of Davis and Wood. They also have LeBron James, which is still one of the biggest positives that any team can look forward to in the NBA today. This group should be able to build on what last year’s Lakers team did in getting to the conference finals last year, even if they do not win a championship.
On the negative side, there are still concerns about the depth around James and Davis on this team. D’Angelo Russell needs to become a more consistent scorer, while Christian Wood needs to prove that he can contribute to a winning basketball team, and not just putting up numbers for losing franchises. Outside of the top couple of players on this roster, there is just a ton to prove.

The nucleus of this Lakers team should be able to carry this group to around 50 wins if they are able to stay healthy this season. LeBron James knows that his time in the NBA is starting to run out, and he cannot afford to continue punting on seasons and seeding if he wants to add to his four championships. Look for this team to take things a little more seriously during the regular season this year to avoid getting into situations where they need to win series on the road in the playoffs.
