Offseason Transactions
Key Additions: KJ Martin
Key Departures: Eric Gordon
The Clippers largely stayed put this past offseason, as their biggest departure was Eric Gordon from last year’s team. The key to this Clippers season is going to be the health and longevity of the players that are already on their roster, specifically Leonard and George. But the Clippers did bring back Russell Westbrook to serve as a primary ball handler, and we will see if the decision for the Clippers to avoid making further moves will help or hurt them.
Positives & Negatives
On the positive side of things for the Clippers, they have a world of talent that will help them to threaten the best teams in the NBA if they are healthy. Having Kawhi Leonard and Paul George gives them two players they can rely on down the stretch in games, while the hyper-athletic Russell Westbrook can make winning plays even if his shooting is a liability.
However, the negative for this roster is the fact that they cannot trust Leonard or George to take the floor for a full season. Nobody plays 82 games in the NBA anymore, which is fine, but these two miss huge chunks of seasons all too regularly. That has to change if the Clippers are ever going to live up to the hype that surrounded them when they acquired Leonard and George originally.
