The late game of Thursday night’s NBA doubleheader is a Western Conference semifinal rematch between the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns. It is a big game worthy of an NBA betting prediction and breakdown with Luka Doncic looking to put an end to the Suns’ four game winning streak. The Mavs open as +1.5 underdogs against the spread and +100 on the moneyline. Thursday night’s Mavericks vs Suns game has an opening total of 223.5.

Dallas Mavericks
Despite an MVP level season from Luka Doncic, the Mavericks season is slowly falling apart in January. Losers of seven of their last nine games, head coach Jason Kidd needs to quickly find answers on how to stop the slide to save the season in Dallas.
Doncic scored 41 points and added 15 rebounds on Tuesday night but they still fell just short in a 127-126 loss to the Washington Wizards. The loss was indicative of the Mavs problems in taking advantage of star performances from Luka, losing to a team six games under .500.
The positive for the Mavs was the performance of energy guy Josh Green. In his fourth game back from injury, Green had 16 points and could be back to providing an important spark to the Mavs with his athleticism after missing 20 games due to an elbow injury.
Dallas hopes their trip to Phoenix is as successful as their 123-90 win in Game 7 in last year’s playoffs. Regular season history is less in their favor, however, as they haven’t won in Phoenix since November of 2019.
Phoenix Suns
Life without Devin Booker hasn’t been so bad for the Suns in the month of January as a four game win streak has the team out of crisis mode and improving their position in the Western Conference.
After losing seven of their first eight games to open January, the Suns win streak has jumped them up to sixth place after falling to as low as 12th. Playing at home has been the catalyst for the turnaround as all four of their wins have come during a five game homestand that ends Thursday night against the Mavs.
Two of those wins for the Suns were incredibly encouraging given the strength of the opponent. Phoenix opened the homestand with a win over the Brooklyn Nets before earning the third win of their current streak by beating the West’s second seed in the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Suns offense is clicking without Booker thanks to the floor general masterclass Chris Paul brings. Paul dished out 11 assists in each of the Suns last two games and is a big part of keeping the offense humming, scoring 110 points or more in all four of their recent wins.
Phoenix will get an added boost on Thursday through the likely return of DeAndre Ayton at center. Ayton missed the last three games with a Non-COVID illness and will look to exploit a matchup in the post against the Mavs that is favorable with Christian Wood out due to injury.
