Thursday night in the National Basketball Association brings a Western Conference matchup that carries playoff implications for one team and a chance to halt a prolonged skid for the other. The Dallas Mavericks (19-34) head to Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles to take on the Lakers (32-21) in what promises to be an intriguing contest on February 12, 2026. The Lakers are looking to enter the All-Star break on a high note, while the Mavericks are desperate to snap an eight-game losing streak. Before this contest begins in LA, continue reading to find my Mavericks vs Lakers pediction here.
Pick: Los Angeles Lakers -6.5 ATS PRO
Confidence: ★★★☆☆
There is a major injury narrative surrounding this game that bettors must digest. The Lakers will be without Luka Dončić, who is out for a fourth straight contest with a left hamstring strain that has tempered the anticipated star-versus-former-team storyline. Dončić leads the league in scoring at approximately 32.8 points per game and averages close to 8 rebounds and assists, so his absence is significant. Meanwhile, LeBron James, Austin Reaves, Marcus Smart, and Deandre Ayton are all listed as game-time decisions but trending toward playing, which should stabilize Los Angeles’ rotation. Ayton’s availability, in particular, could impact rebounding and paint scoring for the Lakers.
Dallas also has absences to contend with. Kyrie Irving is out with a knee injury, and Dereck Lively II is out for the season. Cooper Flagg has been a bright spot offensively for the Mavericks, averaging over 20 points per game, but he is also out for tonight and tomorrow's Rising Stars event. Dallas' offensive efficiency has been poor overall, ranking among the bottom in the league. The Mavs’ defense still ranks respectably, but their inability to consistently score has been glaring during their losing streak.
Score Projection: Mavericks 113 – Lakers 124 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Mavericks 31%, Lakers 69% ATS PRO
This game presents a dynamic where the Mavericks are undermanned and in a deep slump, while the Lakers have reinforcements returning just in time to assert their home edge. The Lakers’ ability to control pace and capitalize on scoring chances should be enough to cover the spread, even with Dončić sidelined. Dallas can keep the margin respectable and bettors should find value on player props that suit the pace and projected scoring. Expect Los Angeles to assert itself early and maintain control throughout, making them a solid pick against the number in this Thursday night matchup.
