Cleveland Cavaliers Betting Preview
The Cleveland Cavaliers made the play-in tournament in the NBA last season, falling short in two straight games and missing the first round of the playoffs. They are looking to avoid the play-in tournament this season though, after making some major moves in the offseason. The question for the Cavs is whether those moves will be enough to make them a legitimate contender in the Eastern Conference.
Cleveland traded to bring Donovan Mitchell in from the Utah Jazz over the summer, who will pair with Darius Garland in the backcourt. Between that duo, and the elite big duo of Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, there is a lot to like in Cleveland this year.

Offseason Transactions
Key Additions: Robin Lopez, Donovan Mitchell, Raul Neto, Ricky Rubio
Key Departures: Brandon Goodwin, Lauri Markkanen, Rajon Rondo, Collin Sexton
The Cavaliers trading for Donovan Mitchell is a transformative move for their organization. In the play-in tournament against the Hawks, the Cavs lacked the ability to score late in the game. Putting Mitchell alongside Darius Garland gives them the additional scoring punch that they need to avoid collapsing in games like that in the future. While losing Lauri Markkanen in the Mitchell trade is a slight negative, it should be worth it.
Positives & Negatives
The Cavaliers have a ton of positives to look at this season, as they have top-end talent and the depth that are required to make a run in the playoffs. Mitchell has not had major postseason success yet from a team perspective, but has done well individually before, and should combine nicely with the existing Cavs roster. This team now has a nice bench unit as well, with players like Caris LeVert, Raul Neto, and Cedi Osman all having nicely defined roles, which is a plus.
On the negative side, this team still feels like it is lacking the pieces needed to slow down the top stars in the East. Cleveland is still going to be overmatched by players like Kevin Durant, Joel Embiid, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. While this is not a problem that is unique to the Cavs, it is the problem that could hold them back from truly contending for an Eastern Conference championship.
2022 Cleveland Cavaliers Win Total Prediction: Over 47.5 Wins
Cleveland won 44 games last season while dealing with an injury to Collin Sexton and clear limitations from their guards with the exception of Darius Garland. This year, they have fixed those guard limitations, and should be a better and deeper team than they were down the stretch a season ago. They may not have the horses to run with the best teams in the East just yet, but they should be able to hit 50 wins and grab a top-five seed after the regular season.
