The Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres continue their interleague series on April 15, 2026, with both teams bringing strong pitching into what looks like another tightly contested game at Petco Park. San Diego enters the night riding a six-game winning streak after a 4-1 victory in the series opener, while Seattle is trying to regain footing after dropping that game despite solid pitching. With two starters carrying ERAs near or below 2.00, this Mariners vs Padres matchup could be another intense and low-scoring affair.

Key Storylines
- San Diego has won 6 straight games and is outscoring opponents 40-15 during that stretch. They are still two games back of the LA Dodgers in the NL West standings, but are positioning themselves nicely in the playoff race early on.
- Seattle has struggled offensively, scoring just 1 run on 4 hits in the series opener.
- Both starting pitchers enter with ERAs under 2.10, pointing to another pitcher-friendly game here.
- The Padres' bullpen has been sharp and reliable late in games and that could end up being the difference-maker in this one.
Pitching Matchup
- Randy Vasquez: 1-0 record, 1.02 ERA, 17.2 innings, with strong command and early-season consistency.
- Emerson Hancock: 2-1 record, 2.04 ERA, 17.2 innings, with an excellent WHIP at 0.74.
- Both pitchers have 19 strikeouts, showing similar swing-and-miss ability over the same number of innings.
- Seattle's pitching staff holds a slight edge in team ERA, but San Diego has been more efficient at run prevention recently.

Mariners vs Padres Model Projection
- Score Projection: Mariners 3 - Padres 4
- Win Probability: Mariners 49%, Padres 51%
This game shapes up as a close and low-scoring duel. Emerson Hancock has been extremely efficient, limiting baserunners and keeping damage minimal. However, San Diego counters with Randy Vasquez, who has been just as sharp and benefits from stronger recent run support. The difference here lies in the lineups rather than pitching.
San Diego’s offense is producing timely hits, with multiple players swinging well over the past week. Seattle, on the other hand, continues to struggle to convert opportunities into runs, as seen in the opener, where they failed to capitalize on early chances. In a game where runs should be scarce, that gap in execution becomes more meaningful. I think the Padres will get their seventh straight win in this contest, doing just enough offensively to get there.
