The New York Yankees will host the Chicago White Sox in the Bronx on Wednesday night. This contest from Yankee Stadium may look like a lopsided affair on paper, but Tuesday night's game between these teams was incredibly close. The Yankees clinched a postseason berth in dramatic fashion, and enter tonight's game with momentum and home-field advantage. Let’s break it down and make our White Sox vs Yankees prediction for tonight.
The Yankees come in riding high after a dramatic 3–2 walk-off win over Chicago that clinched their playoff spot. José Caballero delivered the game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth after a wild pitch tied the game. New York is now just a game behind Toronto for the AL East lead and could end today tied with Toronto.
Chicago has little left to play for beyond avoiding a 100-loss season. They would need to win the remainder of their games to do that, which is not likely given the level of play we have seen from them throughout this season.
The projected starter for the Yankees is Max Fried. He has posted an excellent 18–5 record with a 2.92 ERA this season across 188.1 innings. He’s shown consistent control and the ability to limit damage in tight games. The White Sox counter with Fraser Ellard. Ellard is 0–2 with a 4.50 ERA in limited innings. Ellard is likely to struggle against a potent Yankees lineup in a high-pressure environment
The Yankees have won three games in a row to tighten things up in the AL East race. Chicago has dropped three straight games and four of their last five. They will try to avoid a 100th loss on the year with an upset win tonight.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Aaron Judge (NYY) | Over 0.5 Home Runs |
Cody Bellinger (NYY) | Over 0.5 Home Runs |
Max Fried (NYY) | Over 6.5 Strikeouts |
Score Projection: Yankees 6 – White Sox 2
Win Probability: Yankees 74%, White Sox 26%
This one looks like a clean win for New York. With Fried on the mound, a deeper lineup, and home-field advantage, the Yankees should control this game throughout. I expect the Yankees to hand the White Sox their 100th loss of the season tonight and for New York to cover the runline as a home favorite.
