The Atlanta Braves head into Saturday night's game in Cincinnati looking every bit like a club capable of making a deep postseason run. Atlanta opened the series with an 8-3 victory on Friday and continues to own one of the best records in baseball. The Reds remain in the National League Wild Card picture, but inconsistency on the mound has limited their ability to string together wins against elite opponents. With Martin Perez taking the ball for Atlanta against Brady Singer for Cincinnati, this Braves vs Reds matchup should be an interesting one, with Atlanta entering as the favorite.
Atlanta enters the contest after another strong offensive showing on Friday. Ronald Acuna Jr. opened the game with a home run, Michael Harris II collected three hits and three RBIs, and the Braves finished with 8 runs. The lineup has consistently produced throughout the season, ranking near the top of Major League Baseball in runs scored, batting average, slugging percentage, and hits.
Cincinnati faces a difficult assignment against one of the league's hottest clubs. The Reds have remained competitive thanks to timely offense and solid stretches from their bullpen, but injuries have affected the pitching staff and the club continues to search for consistency from its starting rotation.
Martin Perez has quietly been one of Atlanta's most dependable starters. The left-hander enters with a 2.70 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. He has limited hard contact, avoided big innings, and consistently given the Braves a chance to win. His ability to keep the ball on the ground is especially valuable in a hitter-friendly ballpark.
Brady Singer has experienced a difficult season. The Cincinnati right-hander carries a 6.26 ERA and 1.70 WHIP while allowing 66 hits and 14 home runs in just 46 innings. Opposing hitters have consistently squared him up, and facing Atlanta's deep lineup is a difficult spot for a pitcher who has struggled to miss barrels.
The statistics point heavily toward Atlanta. The Braves have advantages in overall offense, run prevention, starting pitching, and recent form. Perez has been reliable throughout the season, while Singer has struggled with command and home run prevention. Those issues become even more concerning against a lineup featuring Olson, Acuna, Harris, and several productive supporting bats. I'll go with Atlanta to win and cover the runline here, as they should prove again tonight that they are one of the best teams in the league.
