After two weeks away from the mainland in Hawaii, the PGA Tour makes its return to the continental United States this week with the American Express, which will feature one of the more loaded early-season fields, plus one of the more unique tournament setups on the schedule, with the tournament’s four rounds set to be played at three separate courses. A host of top players should be in contention this week, including Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay, Tony Finau, and Xander Schauffele. Here are our golf betting picks for The American Express.

Why Bet On Patrick Cantlay:
✅ Cantlay has played well to start the season, and a return to his home state, plus getting to play in a tournament he’s played well in before, makes him this week’s pick. Cantlay has finished T-2 and T-16 in his last two PGA Tour starts, and in his past three trips to The American Express, has finished ninth, ninth, and alone in second back in 2021.
✅ As mentioned above, the tournament is played on three different courses, and with that change in venue each day, it puts putting at a premium. So far this season, Cantlay is fifth on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Putting.
✅ In an event where a win requires you to go low, Cantlay is tops among the field at 6.42 birdies per round since the 2016 edition of the tournament.

The American Express Course Breakdown
This is a different week on Tour in that rather than one course we see each day, there are three different courses that will be used because of the enormous Pro-Am event that also goes on during The American Express.
The three courses we’ll see this weekend are the PGA West Stadium Course, The Nicklaus Course, and La Quinta Country Club. The Stadium course will host the final round after cuts are made following the third round, another oddity of this week’s event.
The Stadium Course is a Pete Dye-design that will stretch as far as 7,113 yards, while the Nicklaus Course checks in at 7,159, and the La Quinta Country Club is the shortest at 7,060. Each course will play as a Par 72.
Other Golfers Who Can Win the The American Express
Jon Rahm (+650): There’s not a hotter golfer on the planet than Rahm, who in his last five starts has three wins, a second, and a fourth. He won this event back in 2018.
Cameron Davis (+4500): Another golfer who makes plenty of birdies on courses like this, which included a 64 in the final round last year on the Stadium Course.
Harris English (+11000): My longshot pick for the week, English may know these courses better than anyone in the field, playing the Stadium Course and LaQuinta heavily this winter to get ready for the 2023 season. He’s a Top-30 putter, again, a must have in a tournament with three different courses.
