The Vanderbilt Commodores have won each of their first two games this season, beating Virginia Tech at home before crushing Alcorn State out of the FCS 55-0 in their most recent outing. This week, the Commodores have a chance to move to 3-0 on the season, in what would be a very encouraging start to the year for them, if they can find a way to win on the road as a favorite against Georgia State.

The play of Diego Pavia for Vanderbilt has been exceptional to start this season and could be the reason for their early resurgence in 2024. Pavia has completed 22 of his 29 pass attempts this year and has made plenty of play with his legs as well. If he continues to be efficient through the air while being dangerous on the ground, Georgia State's defense might not have an answer for him on Saturday.

Georgia State Coming Off Tight Win Over FCS Opponent

Georgia State is 1-1 to start their season, with a loss to Georgia Tech to kick things off and a win over FCS school Chattanooga to even their record at 1-1. That win over Chattanooga was tightly contested, as Georgia State was only able to win that game by a score of 24-21. But here, the Panthers will need to be much better if they want to have a chance to get a win that would move them to 2-1 on the season and give them a win over a power conference school in the process.

There is an argument to be made that Georgia State would have lost to Chattanooga if not for some good turnover luck. The Panthers forced three turnovers against Georgia State, compared to just one giveaway. They may not be as fortunate in the turnover department against Vandy in this contest and Georgia State will have to be better on defense to avoid relying on turnovers to get a win in this matchup.

Vanderbilt vs Georgia State Best Bet

We have been very impressed with the level of Vanderbilt going into Saturday's Vanderbilt vs Georgia State clash. While we expect Vandy to come back down to Earth once SEC play gets fully up and running, we will lay the points with the Commodores in this matchup and trust that Pavia can continue to take good care of the football to help his team get a big win on the road to continue his team's strong start.
