UTEP Coming Off Embarrassing FCS Loss
The UTEP Miners have been one of the worst teams in FBS football early in the 2024 season. They are 0-2, with losses to Nebraska and Southern Utah of the FCS to kick off their campaign. Losing to Nebraska is certainly understandable given how good they have looked early on, but a loss to an FCS school in overtime is something that will be hard to bounce back from for the Miners here.
The question for UTEP will be whether or not their defense can find a way to get some stops consistently enough to challenge for a win in this game. The Miners have allowed 67 points through two games, which is bad considering that one of those games was against an FCS opponent. On the road against a tough Liberty team, the UTEP defense could be in for another long day here.
Liberty An Underwhelming 2-0?
The Liberty Flames are 2-0 to start their season, beating FCS Campbell in their season opener before beating New Mexico State in their conference opener last week. But Liberty is 0-2 against the spread in their last two games as they have failed to put everything together for 60 minutes at a time in either of their opening contests.
Liberty are still waiting for more from quarterback Kaidon Salter going into this UTEP vs Liberty matchup from Virginia. Salter has 498 yards and two touchdowns through the air so far this season. That is a far cry from the numbers he put up last season, when he had four passing touchdowns through two games, and added five more in Liberty's third game of the season against Buffalo.
