Tulane vs Army AAC Championship Game Prediction – 12/6/24
The American Athletic Conference championship will be contested in upstate New York, as the Tulane Green Wave visits the Army Black Knights in West Point. Both teams sealed their spots in this conference title game before the final week of the regular season, with the final week deciding who had home-field advantage. Tulane is a 3.5-point favorite in this matchup. Here, we break down Tulane vs Army and make our college football betting picks for the AAC Championship Game.
Can Tulane Win Second AAC Title In Three Years?
The Tulane Green Wave had a chance to host the American Athletic Conference Championship Game in New Orleans going into the final week of the regular season. But they faltered against Memphis, suffering their first loss of the season in conference play at the worst possible time. As a result, they will have to go to frigid New York to try and finish the job to win their second AAC title in three seasons.
Despite that loss and playing on the road in this game, Tulane is the favorite in this conference title tilt. The Green Wave have averaged just over 40 points per game this season, ranking in the top-five in scoring offense in college football late in the year. Against an Army team that will try to limit the number of possessions in this game, it will be interesting to see what Tulane’s offensive performance looks like here.
For Tulane, the key to this matchup against Army will be avoiding the mistakes that cost them so dearly against Memphis. Tulane turned the ball over three times at home against the Tigers in their last outing, while failing to force a turnover on defense. Against an Army team that plays pretty conservatively on offense and doesn’t turn the ball over too often, Tulane cannot afford to give away possessions with sloppy play.
Army Looks to Win AAC Crown On First Try
The Army Black Knights joined the AAC this season after being an FBS independent for a long time. They have had immediate success in this conference, going 8-0 in conference play and making it to the championship game in their first season in the league. The question now is whether or not Army can cash in on this opportunity to win a conference championship in their first opportunity to do so.
Army got by the UTSA Roadrunners in their final regular season game, though that was anything but a straightforward victory for the Black Knights. Army trailed 17-16 going into the fourth quarter of that game before scoring two touchdowns in two minutes to take the lead for good. Even then, Army needed to force a couple of late turnovers to seal things up, as they rebounded from their first loss of the season to Notre Dame the week before.
In this game, the big question for Army will be whether their defense can stand up to the explosive offense of Tulane. The Black Knights allowed 15.1 points per game through their first 11 games of this season, making them one of the best defenses in college football at keeping opponents off the scoreboard. But they have also played a catastrophically weak schedule and were exposed by Notre Dame on defense two weeks ago, raising legitimate questions going into this matchup.
Tulane vs Army Best Bet
We will lay the points with the visitors in Tulane vs Army on Friday night. The American Athletic Conference Championship Game should expose Army as having taken advantage of one of the softest schedules in college football in 2024. Meanwhile, Tulane’s offense should be able to overcome the cold and put up enough points to win this game by more than a field goal.
