Last year, the San Jose State Spartans finished with a 7-5 record and a 5-3 record in Mountain West play. The Spartans will come into this year with the same starting quarterback as last year, as Chevan Cordeiro will lead them for the second straight year. The question is whether Cordeiro is capable of delivering on a stage like this in Week 0 against the mighty USC Trojans.
Cordeiro was a mistake-prone quarterback in Hawaii, but managed to limit himself to just six interceptions last year. While he was ineffective against Auburn, he didn’t throw any interceptions in that game. But he will need to contribute some touchdowns for San Jose State to compete with USC, something he could not do against Auburn in the non-conference slate in 2022.

This season is all about high expectations for the USC Trojans. They are one of the favorites to win the College Football Playoff, and they have the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy as well. Here, they will look to put up a big number and get their season off to a strong start against San Jose State at the legendary LA Coliseum.
