- Alabama should be able to shut down the running game of Michigan and force them out of their comfort zone.
- The Crimson Tide have a huge coaching advantage in this game with Nick Saban taking on a coach in Jim Harbaugh who has yet to win a CFP game.
The Rose Bowl is probably the most well-known college football bowl game, with over a century of tradition behind it. This game often features two of the best teams in all of college football and is a part of the College Football Playoff rotation in the present day. Here, we look at the history of this game, and break down this year’s version of one of the biggest games on the college football bowl schedule each season.
2024 Rose Bowl Analysis
In this year’s Rose Bowl, the Alabama Crimson Tide and Michigan Wolverines will face off in the first semifinal of the College Football Playoff. Michigan comes into this game as a slight favorite, as they are the top-seed in the four-team playoff. But Alabama has been much better in CFP games during this era of college football history, which could help them to come away with a win here.
The key to this game will be the quarterbacks on each side. Jalen Milroe will need to make plays with his legs for Alabama to escape the wrath of the Michigan defense. Meanwhile, JJ McCarthy will need to make plays through the air to prevent Michigan’s offense from being too one-dimensional against the Crimson Tide.
Rose Bowl History
The history of the Rose Bowl dates back to the early 1900s, with the first edition of the game being played in 1902. It was then resumed in 1916 and has been a cornerstone of the bowl season ever since. This game regularly features teams from the Pac-12 and Big Ten, though that will change with the Pac-12 being dissolved. It is also in the College Football Playoff rotation, where those conference tie-ins are not a actor. Below is the full list of Rose Bowl matchups and the results of those games.
