Middle Tennessee Defense to Be Tested
The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders squeaked by in Week 1 against FCS Tennessee Tech, beating them 32-25 in a one-possession game. While a win is a win, that result certainly was not encouraging given the challenge that Middle Tennessee is up against this week. Against one of the best offensive teams in the nation this week, the Blue Raiders will need to be better on both sides of the ball to have a chance in this contest.
Middle Tennessee was outgained by Tennessee Tech in their matchup last week, with the Blue Raiders needing a game-winning touchdown inside of the final minute to secure the victory. Needless to say, it is not expected that Ole Miss will allow MTSU to hang around if they are not more explosive offensively than they were when they were outgained by an FCS school.
Ole Miss Coming Off Offensive Outburst
Ole Miss destroyed FCS Furman last week in a 76-0 shutout in Oxford. The Rebels come into this week ranked sixth in the nation, with Lane Kiffin’s team having early-season College Football Playoff aspirations. But to keep those aspirations in tact, the Rebels have to not just beat teams like Middle Tennessee, but beat them with plenty of margin.
Just like last week, we can expect Ole Miss to put the ball in the air aggressively throughout this game. Jaxson Dart had five touchdown passes and 418 passing yards against Furman last week. Expect a similar stat line from Dart this week as he looks to build an early-season case for the Heisman Trophy while helping his team to win with style points in non-conference play.

Laying over 40 points is never easy to do, but that is what we are doing in this weekend’s Middle Tennessee vs Ole Miss game.
