The 2025 College Football Playoff will feature a headline matchup in the first round as the Miami Hurricanes take on the Texas A&M Aggies in College Station. Miami earned one of the final at-large bids into the playoff and they will try to prove that they deserve it against an A&M team that has lost just once this season. Before kickoff from College Station, you can find my Miami vs Texas A&M prediction right here.
Spread | Moneyline | Total |
|---|---|---|
Texas A&M -4 | Miami +145, Texas A&M -175 | 52.5 |
There are several major narratives surrounding this showdown. First, the Hurricanes are entering this playoff with a resume that many believed was not good enough to make the College Football Playoff. They failed to make the ACC title game in a down year for the conference and lost on the road to SMU earlier in the season. The Canes will try to prove that they belong in this field by performing well in one of the toughest places to play in college football.
Texas A&M comes into the playoff having lost its final regular-season game against the Texas Longhorns. The Aggies were held to just 17 points on the road in that rivalry game. But A&M was still more than deserving of a playoff berth and will try to get back on track and advance to the second round now that they are back on their home turf.
Also worth noting is the pressure of the playoff environment surrounding this game. For Miami, the pressure is on as a whole for the program to prove that they belong among the elites in college football. Texas A&M also has its best-ever chance to show that they can be a true championship contender and it will be interesting to see how both teams handle that pressure.
Miami’s quarterback is Carson Beck. He’s thrown for over 3,000 yards and has experience in high-pressure environments during his time with the Georgia Bulldogs. But Beck has fallen short in huge games before and he will need to step up if the Canes are going to advance to face Ohio State in the quarterfinals.
On the other sideline, Texas A&M’s signal-caller is Marcel Reed. Reed had a strong season, throwing for 2,932 yards and 25 touchdowns. But he also had 10 interceptions and needs to find a way to limit his turnovers if the Aggies are going to have a shot to move on in the playoff.
Score Projection: Miami 20 – Texas A&M 27
Win Probability: Miami 48%, Texas A&M 52%
I am very interested to see how both of these teams hold up under the microscope that is the College Football Playoff in this first-round matchup. In my opinion, Texas A&M has the upper hand at home against a Miami team that has taken a couple of losses that have not aged well already this year. I'll lay the points with the Aggies at home.
