Keep reading for our best bet ahead of this Maryland vs Virginia matchup between former ACC rivals.
Can Maryland Bounce Back From Disappointing Game?
The Maryland Terrapins split their first two games of the 2024 college football season. They beat up on UConn in their first game by a score of 50-7, but they couldn't build on that in their second game, a 27-24 loss to Michigan State. Maryland gave up nearly 500 yards of offense to a Michigan State team that struggled mightily in its season opener against Florida Atlantic. Now the Terrapins will look to rebound to move to 2-1 on the season, which could be a tough task in their first road game of the season.
Maryland did force three turnovers, picking off three passes from Michigan State quarterback Aidan Chiles. But it is hard to tell if that is the product of an opportunistic defense or if that is more of a product of Chiles struggling early in his collegiate career with the Spartans. We will get a better idea as to how much credit Maryland does deserve when this game plays out in Charlottesville.
Virginia In Search Of 3-0 Start
The Virginia Cavaliers are off to a good start this season, winning their first two games. After beating FCS Richmond in their season opener, the Cavaliers won their first ACC game of the season, knocking Wake Forest off on the road in a 31-30 game. Despite allowing over 500 yards in total and 400 yards to Wake Forest quarterback Hank Bachmeier, Virginia scored two unanswered touchdowns in the fourth quarter to rescue a 30-17 game and turn it into a victory.
In this contest, Virginia has to be better on both sides of the ball before the fourth quarter to avoid having to pull off another late miracle comeback. That will include a requirement for Cavaliers quarterback Anthony Colandrea to take care of the ball better than he did last week. Colandrea threw two interceptions against Wake Forest and in what could be another close game against Maryland, turnover problems could be a huge issue, even if the Cavaliers are at home this week.
Maryland vs Virginia Best Bet
This Maryland vs Virginia matchup is going to be very telling for both teams. We will lean toward the Cavaliers to win this game as a slight underdog at home. But this game truly could go either way. Bettors will want to be careful with it, but we will go with Virginia on the moneyline in what could be one of the most competitive games of the weekend in college football.
