Florida State vs Alabama Prediction & Preview: Will Tide Roll Over Struggling Seminoles?

Florida State heads to Tuscaloosa on Saturday as sizable underdogs against the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Seminoles are 1-1 after a 27-24 home loss to SMU, while No. 10 Alabama is 2-0 after beating Kentucky 45-17 on the road. Florida State won this matchup 31-17 last season, but the early 2026 numbers point to a much tougher assignment at Bryant-Denny Stadium this time around.
Why Our Model Sees Value:
“Florida State’s offense has been built around its ground game, but Alabama has allowed only 32.5 rushing yards per game through two contests. FSU may be forced into a passing script that does not suit its style of play, while Alabama has multiple ways to attack a Seminoles defense that gave up 430 passing yards to SMU.”
Line Movement Toward FSU
A Tuesday morning Polymarket snapshot had Alabama -19.5 priced at 52%, along with Alabama at roughly 90% to win outright. The latest Polymarket pricing later shifted to Alabama -17.5 at 55%, with the Crimson Tide around 91% in the outright market.
Our Projections Point to Bama
My projection is Alabama 37, Florida State 14, producing a 58% cover probability and a 3% model edge. The difference comes largely from matchup structure. Florida State wants Ousmane Kromah and Ashton Daniels to keep the offense ahead of schedule on the ground. Alabama has allowed just 65 rushing yards across its first two games. If the Tide consistently create longer third downs, FSU will have to rely much more heavily on a passing game averaging 163.5 yards per contest.

Alabama has scored 93 points through two games, beating East Carolina 48-10 and Kentucky 45-17. The Kentucky score hides an uneven first half, as Alabama trailed 17-13 before scoring 32 unanswered points after halftime. The Tide finished with 343 yards, converted 5 of 11 third downs and scored on all 6 red-zone opportunities. Their defense held Kentucky to 209 yards and 1 conversion on 14 third downs.
Florida State had an open week after losing to SMU. The Seminoles ran for 199 yards in that game, including 116 from Kromah, but produced only 125 passing yards and converted 2 of 15 third downs. SMU finished with 585 total yards and 430 through the air.
Kromah is FSU’s best path to keeping this game competitive. He has 231 rushing yards at 6.4 yards per carry through two games, while Daniels has added 101 yards with his legs. That gives Florida State a way to shorten the game and keep Alabama’s offense off the field. Those backing FSU with their Florida State vs Alabama predictions will be counting on the running game getting going again.
The problem is Alabama’s run defense. The Crimson Tide have surrendered 65 rushing yards in two games and only 1.2 yards per attempt. That is an extremely small sample, but Kentucky managed just 63 net rushing yards last Saturday. If Alabama wins first down consistently, FSU’s offensive options become far less abundant.
Keelon Russell has completed 64.2% of his passes for 444 yards through two starts, while Daniel Hill leads the ground attack with 151 yards and 3 touchdowns. Hill ran for 104 yards against Kentucky as Alabama steadily took control after halftime.
Florida State has already allowed 702 passing yards in two games, including the 430-yard showing by SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings. That puts pressure on FSU to generate more disruption up front. The Seminoles also enter this week thinner at linebacker after Izayia Williams and Daylen Green were ruled out for the season, while Blake Nichelson is expected to miss extended time.
This is a nonconference matchup, so it will not directly alter the ACC futures market or SEC futures market in terms of placement in the league standings. Alabama is 1-0 in SEC play, while Florida State is already 0-1 in the ACC. The larger issue is each team’s national résumé.
Florida State can keep the margin manageable if Kromah runs efficiently and Daniels avoids obvious passing situations. Alabama has the stronger path to a win, though. The Tide can attack a vulnerable FSU pass defense, lean on Hill against a depleted linebacker group, and force Daniels to win from the pocket. Over four quarters, those advantages support Alabama clearing the 17.5-point number.
