Can Central Michigan Pass First Road Test?
The Central Michigan Chippewas won their first game of the 2024 season, beating Central Connecticut of the FCS by a score of 66-10. Central Michigan went up 42-7 at halftime of that game and were able to put things into cruise control in the second half. Here, the Chippewas will hope to win as a favorite for the second time in as many games, with a chance to move to 2-0 early in the college football season.
Central Michigan's defense will be tested much more in this game than it was in their last outing against Central Connecticut. The Chippewas gave up 285 yards of offense last week, with the task at hand forcing them to repeat that performance against a better team this time around. The question will be whether or not the Chips can accomplish that on the road and against their first FBS opponent of the year.
FIU Hopes Home Opener Leads to First Win
The Florida International Panthers faced a tough test in their first game of the season, losing 31-7 to the Indiana Hoosiers of the Big Ten. FIU was held under 200 yards of offense in that game, which was to be expected against a team of the caliber of Indiana. But the Panthers have a real shot to grab their first win of the year in this game as they take on a much more beatable Central Michigan team that is much closer to the overall level of FIU going into this contest.
One encouraging sign for Florida International going into this game is the fact that FIU wasn't terrible in the turnover department against Indiana. They only gave the ball away once, which is certainly not a bad number against a team way higher up on the ladder in college football. If FIU can avoid turnovers in a similar fashion this week, they have a shot to win this matchup outright as a home underdog.
Central Michigan vs Florida International Best Bet
Our best bet for this weekend's Central Michigan vs Florida International game is to take the points with the FIU Panthers. We should see a much better version of FIU than we saw in Week 1 given the difference in level of competition that both teams will be facing here. Expect the Panthers to have a real shot to win outright here, as their moneyline isn't a terrible idea from a betting perspective along with the point spread.
