- Tennessee has no answer for Zach Edey in the paint and the Purdue big man should be the primary difference in this contest.
- Purdue is also the top three-point shooting team in college basketball, which should help them build a lead and keep it.

In Sunday’s Tennessee vs Purdue matchup, three-point shooting will be the key on both sides. The Purdue Boilermakers are the top three-point shooting team in college basketball coming into this matchup. That should give them the advantage, but Tennessee has plenty of shooters of their own and is more than capable of stealing this one.
Of course, Purdue is protected somewhat against a bad shooting game by the presence of Zach Edey. Edey has been simply flawless in this year’s tournament, getting whatever he wants at the rim and shooting well at the free throw line. Tennessee is going to have a hard time stopping him, which could offset any issues that the Boilermakers have behind the three-point line.
In order to have a chance to pull off the upset in this matchup, Tennessee will need a more efficient shooting game from Dalton Knecht than they’ve got over the last two games. Knecht was very efficient against Saint Peter’s in the first round of the tournament. But since then, he has shot just 13/41 from the field in the last two games. The Tennessee star has to be better if his team is going to reach the Final Four.
Tennessee is also dealing with an illness that could cost them in this game. Santiago Vescovi missed the last round against Creighton due to the flu. If he isn’t at or near 100% for this game, the Vols could be without one of their major pieces in a game where they will need everything to go right for them to win.
We have the Purdue Boilermakers winning this Tennessee vs Purdue matchup and covering the spread in the process. The Boilermakers just have too many scoring options to contend with, while Tennessee relies too heavily on Knecht, especially with Vescovi dealing with the flu. Look for Purdue to get to the Final Four, where they will be favored over either Duke or NC State.
